They’re not going to come out and say they want to trade him but he’s a logical sell high guy. Everyone on this sub is like “eh I’d rather trade Vientos” because the fans on here only ever want to trade guys who have zero value. This time a year ago you’d get downvoted for saying sell high on Vientos even though he was an obvious regression candidate.
Stearns said the Mets were comfortable with McNeil playing every day in 2026 and “he understands that his positional versatility is a real asset for us” and then he was dumped 3 weeks later.

If you’re trading Baty you obviously want to maximize the return but I’m not really sure who Gelbs thinks Baty is. The only way he’s in a trade returning a “major, major player” is if he’s the second or third best player in a package headlined by a top 50 prospect.
Every time a reporter has mentioned another team in trade rumors with the Mets, they always say, “[Other team] likes Baty.” I think they’ll move him.
Vientos for Luis Robert
They shouldn’t be looking to trade Baty, but they should be open to it. Like if he can be the main piece in getting Duran, they should take it. But they shouldn’t be trading him just for the sake of it.
Strong potential to be an 800+ ops guy with + defense. Damn right you aint moving him. If he and alvy build off the back half of last year it will actually be a really gross lineup.

Im not a huge Baty stan but trading him is a big risk. Not just from his development standpoint, but without him, you are relying on Vientos (terrible fielder) and Acuna (terrible hitter) to back up a guy who hasnt played 140 games in three years (BB) and an old 2b. Not to mention Baty helps keep those guys fresh by taking some reps at those positions.
This sounds more like his opinion than some report on how the Mets FO is thinking, no? Regardless, I do agree with him. I think you can make this work. If Bo is willing to DH at least some of the time, it works out nicely enough. Him being a RHB balances out nicely with Baty. Maybe vs. RHP, it’s Baty 3B and Bichette DH, and vs. LHP, it’s Bichette 3B and Vientos DH. If you can get Baty to play a subpar but passable LF for like ~30 games, that’s even more flexibility.

Why can’t Baty play 1B? He is a lefty which has advantages when at 1B and if he has the athleticism to be a good 3B then he should have the ability to become a good 1B.

Baty hit over .300 with a .550 slug in the second half last year, I’m sure the Mets want to keep him unless a skubal trade depends on it
