[Rapsheet] Aaron Rodgers is OUT in Pittsburgh following the resignation of Mike Tomlin and is not expected to return to the Steelers if he continues playing.

  1. Good from both sides. Good for Pittsburgh obviously because it’s rebuilding time, and if A-Rod truly does play another year, it’s going to be with a SB contender (don’t know if one exists that needs a QB but we’ll see)

  2. You know what, I didn’t like the signing when it took so long to happen. But, Rodgers did the best he could with what he had to work with. Best wishes to him!

  3. If true and if he does retire, for his age he did play well. I could only imagine what the Steelers offense could have been if he had some receivers.

  4. He said he’s not expected to return now that Tomlin is out. Which is what everyone has been saying since the Tomlin news. No one knows what Aaron is going to do but Aaron.

  5. This was coming as soon as Tomlin stepped down.

First decent QB we’ve had in years. Wish him well.

  6. Unsurprising. I did enjoy his flares of brilliance. It was always a tall ask to be ready to win with that WR room.

  7. Lol, I know they have to “confirm” all of these things but like… It was pretty clear he came here because of Mike. When they were talking about one more year, it was with the ideas of a second year in the same system.

Same deal with the coaching staff. Like yeah, when the HC changes, everyone else on his staff is no longer going to be retained in position. They can be rehired, but it becomes the decision of the new coach. It’s pretty much a clearing house move

  8. This was obvious. I feel like I was one of the few people who liked the signing last year. Rodgers has always been one of my favorite non-steelers (except 2011) and I felt like he was a good option for last season. With that said, him leaving is absolutely best for both parties. It’s clearly time for us to rebuild and if he does keep playing it shouldn’t be with us. I appreciate his time here though, and if he does call it quits I appreciate him finishing his career with us.

  9. Thanks Aaron. It was fun watching you play as a Steeler. Best of luck in your next endeavor.

  10. Rodgers is a great example of one of those “This is why I’m not the GM” moments.

I didn’t want the team to sign him fearing he would be a headache, but he came in, helped the team, and played some damn solid football. Best of luck to him in retirement.

  11. I’m grateful for the year we had him. He was throwing to plumbers and had 2 seconds to get rid of the ball but having one of the all-time greats suit up for your team was awesome to watch

  12. Hopefully he signs with Minnesota early so that he can count towards the compensation picks

  13. He had a lot more in the tank than I thought he did. It was nice to have a QB who could really read a defense again.

Sad he didn’t have a better receiving core to work with.

  14. Correct decision – we need a rebuild. Even if it means a painful season or 2.

Nobody needs a (slightly above) average football team.

  15. Of course he’s out, he doesn’t have a contract. If the next coach is someone that Rodgers likes, he could hypothetically be back. That’s not going to happen, but this is non news from rapsheet.

  16. I’m okay with this. I didn’t want him last year but he def didn’t play as bad as I expected. But dude will be turning 43 next NFL season and super clear his body isn’t what it use to be as his mobility is super limited, he doesn’t want to get hit (I mean who does at his age), his body will likely be more injury prone, and weaken, and the talent around him is no where near what it needs to be for him to be successful. Although he mentally is still pretty sharp and I think would be great if he retired and came on as a consultant or coach to help the QBs for the new HC but if he wants to play next year or doesn’t want to coach/the coach doesn’t want him so be it too

  17. I am still in the camp that believes Rodgers will stay a free agent until a contending team inevitably loses their QB to injury.

  18. Didn’t like the signing at first but he did his best with what he had and got us to a division win.

    Thanks for the season A-Aron!

  19. I was a Rodgers hater before he got here but now I respect the hell out of him. Dude played with a broken arm and tried winning it all for us. Thankful I got to cheer him on. It was a pleasure and I wish they would’ve been able to get it done for him, Tomlin and cam.

  20. He did all he could. We could’ve went a lot further if we had more weapons for him. I’m not one of the people who wanted to keep Pickens but it’s hard to imagine we wouldn’t have went further if him and DK were our 1 and 2

  21. Honestly I was a pretty big anti-fan of Rodgers and he really won me over. He did literally none of the BS fans (including myself) were worried about while he was here. He was super respectful about the city, the franchise, his coach of course and fellow players. I hope he left a mark with some young guys
