[BNS] Heard something recently that adds a little context around how the Blue Jays operate atop the free agent market: they met in person with Framber Valdez at the GM Meetings before signing Dylan Cease

  1. Blue Jays: “Be honest, did you throw at your catcher on purpose?”

    Valdez: “Yes”

Blue Jays: “ok” *immediately signs Cease*

  2. Weird. So like they talk with all the top free agents? Who would’ve thought?

  3. Q: How do the Blue Jays operate atop the free agent market?

    A: Meeting with free agents

BEN WHAT ARE YOU DOING ARE YOU OKAY ARE YOU BEING HELD HOSTAGE BY THE TORONTO SUN?

  4. We don’t want Valdez on the team, that’s what it means to me. Talked to him, don’t want this mentality across the border 🤷‍♂️

  5. I think it shows that the Jays weren’t dead set on anyone and were open to other pitchers. Or alternatively that they weren’t convinced by frambers story and prioritized clubhouse culture.

  6. I’d rather have Cease the K woodchipper than someone with such a problematic past.

  7. Another nothing burger by BNS? Great! Glad Cease is a Jay and actually wanted to be here.

  8. Sounds like BNS is implying the Jays are unique in their refusal to sign players with character issues.

Is that really a unique approach to free-agency? Don’t other teams do this?

  9. Framber is the better pitcher but I’m happy with the decision to go with Cease. Two years ago he said he’d refuse to pitch in the ASG unless he started. If that wasn’t bad enough, the stunt he pulled with the catcher last season was the cherry on top. We don’t need a diva like that.

  10. Am I crazy for wanting to see if Joey Loperfido can play everyday or if Eloy Jimenez can find himself again over spending money on Belli?

  11. I like Valdez but think Cease fits the team way more, espcially his personality

Personality wise, he’s just like Gausman, chill af and the main thing, doesn’t let a bad start keep him down or let the media obligation get to him either

the Jays made the right decision here imo

  12. On the one hand, if BNS was so great he’d have this info at the Winter Meetings and reported on it. On the other hand, maybe it was good that he didn’t have that info at the time as it’d have us all buzzing and then getting disappointed if it didn’t materialize.

Sometimes it seems like BNS is frozen out of major stuff like that and only reports on it after the fact.

  13. Front office performs due diligence before signing a player to a major contract

    Water is wet

  14. What “context” does this add exactly? That teams meet with multiple free agents before making an offer?

    Stupid, senseless post.
