When the Cowboy teams of the past made pushes in the playoffs, it was because they had talented bruisers and thumpers in the heavy contact positions. O line, D line, Linebackers, Secondary. With the addition of two physical D line players this past season, the Cowboys surged for a few games. The teams in the playoffs now have the big, aggressive players. The front office needs to get back to drafting pillars of strength
Gannon hadn’t had a defense in the top 20 over his HC tenure
Thanks. I like your interdisciplinary perspective and analysis. Engineer right?
Yeah, I was debating people in the comments too much yesterday to actually comment myself.
Dak is a top 10 QB, not top 5. Top 5, elite talent QBs carry bad teams and can mask bad coaching. They innovate the game.
What Dak is not is an innovator. He has not changed how the game is played on a gameplan level or carried a far worse team than he has had on his back and made a deep run. He still has time to be elite. But even being elite doesn’t guarantee a Super Bowl.
Coaching is important but even great coaches and great quarterbacks don’t guarantee anything. They just guarantee a shot at the ring.
Marino, different era I know, is probably the best example of this. He was the passing yards leader for decades. Tarkenton was Marino before Marino. Marino and Shula then Jimmy Johnson had no rings together, to go back to that. Shula was nowhere out of his prime either, when he got Marino.
Allen may never get a ring, Lamar may never get a ring, Burrow may never but no one should doubt them on competing for one.
If I was building a team to win a Super Bowl and started at QB it would be Burrow just knowing how much he elevated a team the way he did and went to a super bowl. That’s how I determine elite.
I want someone to free Joe B for real. Zac Taylor, from the Shanahan tree, hasn’t really done much to maximize his talent and their roster management is god awful. It was certainly fools gold in keeping him there.
Romo to me was a sneaky elite QB early in his career. He took teams that should probably be competing for the number one pick to playoff games and .500 years. Why Payton originally wanted him. Young Romo was a less athletic Josh Allen in my mind.
Dak is a great leader and just carries himself as a poised professional at all times. I also think he’s a fantastic human and anyone who likes a good underdog story roots for this guy who experienced poverty, like many of us have. He’s super relatable and as a person he is elite in almost any way.
That is what makes him such a great leader. He deserves nothing with praise and glaze, as the youth say, there. He is legitimately one of the few celebrities I like as a person.
He’s also a shrewd businessman or has them negotiating for him. I do really wish he’d take less money like Mahomes did and Brady did but I also understand getting your money and I feel no pity making Jerry spend more money in all honesty. Also he wasn’t married to a mega rich supermodel like Brady was.
I talk about this to illustrate a point, we all have traits that lead us to where we are as a person in our totality, piggybacking on your point from the comments.
On Stephen, he needs to learn how to talk to the media. Bad mouthing players under contract to the business is never good business. No one can convince me to the contrary there. There’s no upside to it. That was my anger with last offseason.
Don't BLOW this DALLAS! 🤨
They have 3 interviews set up. Jones is just the one that they could get in , but they have two more by Monday.
I really love this new approach because after having 4 DC’s in 4 years you have look in and seeing what are you doing wrong. I like the patience and getting a good feel on these coaches this time and not jump on to the first or second coach you bring in. Like soup, be patient and let it simmer in the end you’ll feel very pleased of the process.
Hey Nick, your comments on Dak Prescott are 100% justified. As a matter of fact, I don't think you were harsh enough. While Dak is a good quarterback bottom line, he doesn't bring the x Factor that over a dozen quarterbacks in the league bring to their opposing defenses. You look at the first eagles game of 2025 and Jalen hurts who's not at the top of the quarterbacks that bring the x factor was responsible for more scrambling first downs then the entire eagles team put together. That's a fact. Can you ever say that about Dak Prescott, no never and that's a problem that our opposing defense is never have to worry about or designate a spy to the quarterback. Couple that with the fact that he's the highest paid quarterback in the league has single-handedly handicapped the cowboy's front office. Always having to restructure to figure out how to make cap room for that bad contract. How cowboy's fans cannot see this when it is happening to us time and time again is so far beyond me and completely frustrating!
Evolving as an organization is the most important thing you can do. That archaic mindset is passé. That being said the search for DC is showing that change. Bottom line though is they need playmakers on defense if you have the horses then all you have to do is race. It’s not complicated so bring in some talent on the defense!!!!!
You would put harbaugh over McCarthy even though it’s equal if anything McCarthy is better
I’ve been having very similar thoughts in shotty, where i don’t know if he’ll win a superbowl but I do believe he will change the culture for the better and build a strong foundation for the future.
As for the dak argument, at this point in his career I think draft position means very little because he’s a 10 year starter. Geno smith was a first round pick and what has his raw talent amounted to? At the end of the day the best QBs are the ones who can play at high levels for a long duration of time. Tom Brady wasn’t a first round pick and he’s the GOAT so to me it’s a moot point. The bigger conversation to have is how many of the divisional QBs are on rookie contracts.
Spot on regarding the Giants as a Cowboys fan living in NY and seeing them year after year. Organizational disfunction since Coughlin left hasn’t been resolved
Why havent the Cowboys pursued Brian Flores ?
Jimmy Johnson needed top guns for OC DC special teams etc … why is Schotty flying without an OC ?
Would the same Dak logic about his draft position apply to someone like Joe Montana a 4th rounder to Hall of Fame inductee.
Don't nobody want A Gannon.
i would be happy with Daronte Jones
I do find if funny when you say "He's not these QBs" yeah, he's not, he's statistically proven better. Lamar has never been better than Dak as a QB, a RB? Sure, congrats, you're a QB, your job is to throw. You do tend to compare him and Hurts often and say they're close, Top ranked QB every healthy season Dak? Is close to can't break top 10 on average Hurts? Who has Dak played with btw? A lot of washed up players. Defenses always sell in the playoffs, WRs run routes horribly and don't get open. I think it's a little ridiculous myself how often you pretend Allen, Lamar or others are better. And THAT'S just a fact.
This channel lost all credibility @32:30. No one and i mean no one thinks Hurts is a great leader
Absolutely I'm not Tripping with(Daronte Jones) as Our(DC)
Not sure how everyone has picked certain coaches and say thats their favorite, thats who they want?? I like Parker, I think Schotty has a lot going on to have a DC that may need more experience. I have always like Daronte Jones but I also like DeMarcus Covington (Pats/GB) interviewed Fri and also hope they get to interview Jeff Ulbrich. If Flores takes the Pittsburgh job, Jones could go with him as his DC??? Same with Leonhard. As far as Gannon goes, he won only 15 games in 3 yrs and I'm not sure if he can command a room and get his players to want to run through a wall for him?? My top 3.5 are Jones, Leonhard, Covington, Ulbrich!
Clickbait
1. Leonhard
2. Jones
Thats it.. anything else is a complete failure in my opinion.
Parker and Leonhard are the favorites
