“My job is to serve players and I don’t take it lightly.”

That’s Mike McDaniel, the former Dolphins head coach who is interviewing with the Raiders for their head coaching job tomorrow.

McDaniel spoke with The Pivot podcast a couple of years ago about his long journey to the NFL.

“There’s an advantage to being in an industry, and being in a role, that you’ve obsessed about being in since you were five, and that’s rare.”

McDaniel: “I’m a thinker.”

  1. So at my job all of us managers had to read this book called the 5 levels of leadership. It’s basically a theory on how to best be a leader, and how to get the most out of your staff. Without writing a dissertation on it, it aligns with McDaniels thoughts, essentially leading from power and your role with have people listen to you because they have to, you’re their boss. Connecting with people and getting to know them will make them follow you because they like and respect you.

It’s 100% a more effective way to lead, and McDaniel clearly gets it.

  2. It’s a great way to think about leadership but the other part is the delivery and follow through. McDaniel for OC, dude can obviously draw up plays and call good games
