[Klapisch] #Yankees have made an internal decision not to engage in a bidding war for Cody Bellinger if #Mets or anyone else swoops in with a blow-away offer. Yankees believe they’ve made a fair proposal – five years, $160 million, two opt-outs. They’re prepared to let Bellinger walk.

  1. The way this free agency is going, I’d expect the final deal to wind up 3 years 110m

  2. I think he fits this lineup pretty well tbh, would also hurt the Yankees so it’s a win/win even if it’s an overpay.

  3. It’s a more than reasonable offer. But given what tucker and Bo got, he’s surely expecting more.

  4. Feels like a good situation where we can offer what appears to be more money but isn’t really with a bunch of deferrals. Or maybe something like we did with Santander where he was asking more years than most teams wanted to give, so we just gave the years but dropped the AAV by a ton.

Pretty sure whatever Bellinger gets will be an overpay and I’m doubtful the Jays are talking to him seriously, but he would be a perfect fit batting second and fills a corner OF spot for 2027 and beyond.

  5. Honestly, get Belli who gives a fuck. Even if we overpay, taking him away from the Janks would be hilarious.

Either way, not having him in the division would be massive.

  6. Do the same AAV but make it 7 years, and move him to centre field once Varsho walks in 2027.

  7. Just close your eyes and pay Rogers, Bellinger weakens an AL rival and makes this an A++ offseason

  8. With how everything has shaken out this offseason and the current landscape of the division, it actually makes a lot of sense for the Jays to go after Belli with some *serious* effort

  9. This is actually smart on the part of the Yankees. Let some other sucker, er, team overpay for him.

Bellinger benefits heavily from the short porch at Yankee Stadium, and there is a dramatic difference between his home and away splits.

  10. I’d go for him – weakens NY, no clear path to strong bats in FA for foreseeable future and he’s really good defensively – put Santander on bench or offload him in a salary dump

  11. Really don’t think we want him for long term but I like the idea of 5ish years with opt outs

  12. This is good news as if he doesn’t sign the the Yankees lineup will have got worse.

I’d still like to see us sign another bat but it’s not urgent

  13. Is he really that worth the contract he’ll command?

I still remember the insanely down years he had with LAD

  14. We don’t need him !!!

If we sign him, we’ll be in the same position we are with Santander now.

  15. All depends what a blow away offer is to the Yankees.

If they’re not willing to go 170 then fire away.

  16. Would like Bellinger but things get a little jammed up.

    Springer is the DH

    Varsho as CF

    Santander as LF

    Barger as RF

    Where do you play Bellinger?

And more importantly … they need an elite shutdown closer.

  17. Jay should offer 5 year 165 and opt out every year. We are in win now mode. He can also replace DV in the outfield if we don’t re sign him.

  18. Listen ngl I don’t want him on the team. His home and away splits last year scare the shit outta me

  19. It struck me watching the Yankees playing in the post season, Bellinger was the *only Yankee* who looked like he was a pro. Calm, competent. Anything hit in his general direction was a sure out. If he can come close to his career averages offensively, he’s the kind of guy the Jays love.

  20. 3 years 110, opt out after 2. $36.66 AAV
We dont want him long term.
In 2 years the market resets the opt out is a win win.
Gets you 2 years post Springer and Varsho

You are overpaying to get the short term deal.

  21. Bellinger is very risky – his career has gone up and down since his MVP season- below WAR player, toxic contract forced to accept short term contracts coming off a great season. It really depends on how the Jays value him and see how he’ll age.
