Matt Moscona breaks down the New Orleans Saints’ rookie draft class and why ESPN’s Aaron Schatz ranked them as the most productive of the year. From Kelvin Banks starting every game at left tackle to Tyler Shough emerging as a potential franchise QB, Moscona highlights key contributors and the impact of injuries on players like Vernon Broughton and Devin Neal. He also examines the historical context, comparing this draft to previous high points in Saints history like 2017, and discusses why consistent drafting under Mickey Loomis has often been a challenge. With Kellen Moore now at the helm, Moscona analyzes whether this draft class could become the cornerstone of the franchise, and what it means for the Saints’ future success.

  1. Kellen Moore and Tyler Shough had a good season. Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams are also having a good season. The Bears went 11-6 and beat the Packers in the Wild Card round.

  2. Thankfully John Harbaugh didn't decide to go to the Falcons. The standard for the Ravens isn't like the standard for the Saints. Not making the playoffs isn't acceptable in Baltimore because they don't rebuild. That roster has been stacked for over 20 years.

  3. Let me explain something to you. Mickey Loomis doesn’t make the draft picks. A committee of executives, coaches and scouts come to a consensus and that player is drafted. The coach has a lot to do with what he wants. After all his butt is on the line, if it doesn’t work out. Mickey Loomis is the dollars guy. His office handles accounting, contract and manipulating the salary cap. He does NOT select players in the draft. Additionally, you forget the 2006 (5 starters), 2007 (3 starters), 2008 (3 starters, 1 backup) , 2009 (2 starters, 1 backup), 2010 (3 starters 1 backup), 2011 (1 HOF), 2012 (1 HOF, 1 backup), 2013 draft (3 starters, 1 HOF), 2016 (4 starters), 2017 of course, 2019 (3 starters). I stopped looking after that. Let’s not forget the longline of UDFA’s. Maybe there were were only 3 homers, but there were a lot of doubles and triples.

  4. This is a great argument, we wasted Drew's career & if shough don't get a better gm we'll wast his 2 , drew should have won 3 been 2 at least 5 superbowls , but year after year bust after bust & shitty free agents & bad contracts & drew still kept us in thats how bad mickey is , it's took a all time great just to keep us a float

  5. The title alone reeks of unfair bias, in some cases unhinged. The Saints just got voted BEST ROOKIE CLASS in the NFL, and you can't give the org credit for that? Wow. Pull yourself back from the edge, man.

  6. Breesee is good. Not awesome but good. Ruiz has been a starter for years (he sucks) , Peat was a 3x Pro Bowler and played damn near 9years with us. We don’t we a Super Bowl without Meecham, Also you can tell by those picks that they’re isn’t any underling rational, which leads me to believe that the coaches heavily influenced the drafts. Which is awesome to know that Moore and Staley gonna take another swing at it

  7. Matt I usually agree with you on everything but I don’t think the comparisons you were making are comparable. The evaluation process is not for sure with any player any teams drafts, if there is a professional sports players who had a job they are expected to not mess up majority of the time but the draft you really never know. If there was always for sure good players then the draft would look completely different.

  8. Terrible take. Mickey hit on the Draft, Hit on a Franchise QB, in which the Draft hit on Mutliple starting positions on offense and defense. It may have taken 5 years to find it but that's better the most franchises. Now we can build around Shough and the young and talented defense. I bet Matt still has his comb from his highschool days since he holds onto things.

  9. I like this channel and Mickey isn’t the best but c’mon man at some point go to war with what you got it is what it is. Not trying to be one of them FAN/MEDIA BASES THATS ALWAYS NEGATIVE AND TOXIC c’mon MATT we rock with you but c’mon rock with us

  10. Jeez this is turning into quite the negative Nancy show. Had a new coaching staff but man we are haaaaaanging onto this Mickey stuff.
What if an NFL team out of 20 years misses the playoffs 18 times, but wins 2 superbowls? What a stupid exercise.

  11. This is crazy. Mickey loomis has a history of over 20 years of giving the saints a competitive team. This is something the saints never had in its history. I love your show Matt but your take on Mickey is terrible.

  12. I think his rant is a little misleading based on the fact that these players are drafted based on a consensus of mines coming together and needs for the team. Donte Stallworth was actually a really good receiver coming out of college not every team hits every draft. I’m pretty sure Sean Payton didn’t just sit back and allow Mickey to pick players and say here this is who I got do what you can with them. My thing is the Saints did not compile this list. Another media outlet did so I think he needs to just allow them to recognize the good work. He has done and move on.

  13. Mickey still isn’t a good GM. Regardless of the picks, look at the shitty contracts he gives out. You fools in the comments w no sense…

  14. A lot of these comments since Brees left has been more on the negative side towards Matt but you guys don’t understand we need a guy like Matt who puts things into perspective

  15. Mickey Loomis is an incompetent doddering fool . . . yes, he will inevitably screw it up . . .
and screw it up royally . . . the same goes for Jeff Ireland and all the other scouts . . . ..

  16. Matt you tak about Mickey missing on picks when your takes on the team are just as ass, so why do you still have a job ? Oh yeah mind you the saints have been one of the most winning franchises in the last 20 years Matt you really don’t know ball bruh just shut up

  17. Sean had no voice in any of those drafts ? The Tommy Stevens pick was a Sean pick clear as day. Mickey OBVIOUSLY isn’t grinding Northern Iowa tape trying to find an offensive lineman. Blame him for the bad contracts that he’s given out sure but the drafting of the players is clearly a collective of Coaches & Scouting personnel.

  18. Holy hell the analogy, or your point at the beginning was terrible … do baseball players hit homeruns on every AB? no they also hit singles, doubles, triples, and also strikeout … So has Mickey … there's a reason I stay away from this channel … thanks for reminding me 👍
