Todd Monken makes me want anyone but Todd Monken. Doesn’t Jimmy wonder why no one else is considering this guy for HC?

If this is the pick it’s same old Jim Haslam: Smartest guys in the room syndrome.

And there’s Mary K saying “the browns are smart for bringing him back in the building with the threat of Harbaugh stealing him away.”

What? No one is looking at this loser for HC—no one other than Harbaugh is even considering him as OC. But have to “not let him out of the building.”

  1. Monken or Schwartz scream to me “one and done” with everyone, AB included, getting fired in a year.

And the fact that those two are finalists makes me concerned that the pitch the Browns are giving is uh, not well received by top candidates

  2. If they hire him it’s a different story, but criticizing them for interviewing people is so stupid… it costs nothing to talk to people they should get all the information they can

  3. A 60-year-old, first-time NFL coach who went 13-26 in college over a decade ago.

Read about his behavior during his time as the Browns’ OC. This is the type of professional you want as the leader of your organization?

If he’s hired, Haslam will be in the market for a head coach again in 2027.

  4. Im not high on Monken but at the same time you gotta trust the process with AB and co, people in this sub think Udinski is the next Mcvay already and if he is that good, he’ll get the job, if not they’ll look elsewhere.

My preference at this point is

    1. A young OC getting his first HC gig
    2. Shwartz HC, elevating a young up and coming assistant coach to OC
    3. A veteran offensive mind like Monken

1 is probably best followed by 2, but 3 could be fine. The only thing I would flip out on is if they brought in a retread coach with a defense background like Flores, and I like him but it’s the opposite of what we need right now.

  5. If Monken gets this job, it might set the Browns back another five years. I get the impression that his last year in Baltimore did not go well because he got lazy. Henry inside left, Henry inside right, then pass play that’s incomplete or Lamar gets sacked. I think he might have been expecting Lamar to bail him out more often than not.

  6. Worst case scenario at HC. Just idiotic to interview this guy once, let alone twice.

  7. Monken wanted Shedeur on the Ravens. He’s probably one of the few guys interviewing who really believes he can make Shedeur work and I’m sure they’re interested on hearing more about who Monken would bring in to do that.

  8. This wouldn’t be a “smartest guys in the room” move, this would be “nobody else who specializes in offense wants this job” move

Giants are really going to pressure us into signing this asshole huh

  9. Don’t believe the smoke screens. Remember how shocked we were when we traded down from 2. Love it or hate it, AB moves in silence. I don’t buy the Schwartz media fluff the last two days either personally.

  10. Just find me the nfl version of curt cignetti , it’s what we truly need someone who turns a culture around

  11. Possible scenarios:

1.) Browns legitimately think this guy is an offensive mastermind.

2.) Browns think “if he’s good enough for Harbaugh he’s good enough for us”

3.) Schwartz has explicitly stated that he will stay on as DC if Monken were to become HC

4.) Browns are getting rebuffed by every other candidate and Monken is the only one willing to take the job

  12. I’ve never seen Browns Reddit have a consensus before 🤣 please do not hire this guy. He’s definitely not a leader and isn’t even that great as an OC. Also, I heard some homeless guy said he’d be a bad hire..

  13. The people in here acting like Monken isn’t a well respected coordinator and play caller do not know ball. He may or may not be a good head coach but the Cleveland job is an absolute lower tier job and they would be lucky to have him.

They ran the good head coach out and he immediately got hired elsewhere and now you bozos want to cry about interviewing someone who’s not getting head coaching looks 😂

  14. I really dont think our organization is stable enough for a 29 year old head coach, but I can’t think of a less inspiring hire than Todd freaking Monken.

  15. I’m not listening in on the interviews so I’m not going to pretend to know who the best option is

  16. These are fall back candidates. Him and Schwartz. If we know the path these two lead to, so do they. Plus I don’t think Berry is going to put his career on the line for 60 year old coaches.

I do however think he would for Pitcher, Udinski, and Scheelhaase. Keep the faith knowing they can’t hire anyone until the Rooney rule is satisfied.

Let’s hope the Browns take a swing here.

  17. I would give any candidate an open minded fair shot except Monken. What was the point of firing Kevin to just replace him with grumpy Kevin?

The ineptitude of Haslam is almost beyond whats fathomable. I wanted everyone fired so I guess I’ll get what I want next year if we hire this guy. 🤷‍♂️ Gotta try to really look for positives with the Browns and thats the best I can come up with if we really do hire this guy.

Edit: I would take ANY other candidate they’ve interviewed over this loser.

  18. Maybe I’m in the minority but I always liked Todd, thought last year was almost entirely on the awful defense. But honestly I probably won’t feel anything about any name who gets hired til the season starts. We really have no idea how any of these guys will do here but hey, I think Kev was absolutely the right choice last time so why not give them the benefit of the doubt on picking a coach for once

  19. I wasn’t a huge fan of Stefanski, but to fire him for Monken…yeah, the Browns is the Browns

  20. It doesn’t matter who the coach is. We won’t have a qb for at least 3 years, probably more. Unless our 5th rd qb somehow becomes good.

  21. I’ll vomit on the floor and roll around in it if they hire this fucking guy… What gets me is the wild discrepancy between candidates. Like, you have super interesting guys like Udinski and Scheelhaase, and then you have guys like Minter, Schwartz and McDaniel who can only be summed up as “meh”, and then there’s this fucking joke… I mean, like seriously, I struggle to think of a more uninspiring name they could pull out if they put the name of every single NFL coach into a hat and drew one out at random. Wtf has he ever done?
