Lots of people seem worried about Polanco/Bichette being first timers at the corners.

I think having Kai Correa is a huge reason why the Mets feel confident going down this road.

Aside from middle infielders usually transitioning quite well to the corners, Kai Correa is known as a defensive coaching genius.

JD talking about his improvement:

As impressive as Davis has been with the bat since the trade to the Giants, he quickly blossomed into an above-average and possibly an elite defender with the glove. Davis currently is ranked third in all of baseball in Outs Above Average (4), seventh in Defensive Runs Saved (2), and has the second-best Def rating at 4.5, which measures fielding runs above average.

A lot of what Davis credits for his surprising defensive success this season has been his extra work with Giants bench coach and infield/baserunning instructor Kai Correa, who has helped him to develop a simplified pre-pitch routine that focuses on slowing the game down and fine-tuning his fundamentals.

  1. There has been a massive push apparently league wide that Kai Correa is a coaching wizard, even going as far as considering him a shoo-in for a future long managerial career. I almost feel like hiring him in place of Gibbons is the steal of this off season.

  2. was always a jd davis believer. always felt he had a consistent .800 ops in him

  3. The stats seem to imply he struggled with maintaining his hitting while focusing on fielding. That is a single tool player.

  4. He played so well that he lost his job and hasn’t been able to really catch on with anyone else anywhere. He got 5 games and 9 plate appearances with the Angels last year.

  5. One of the most overhated Mets ever. 123 OPS+ in 4 years and a bunch of clutch hits. The feelings around JD and Dom (99 OPS+ as a Met) show how much we as fans overvalue homegrown players.

In 2022 he was a league average hitter but was one of the unluckiest hitters in all of baseball in the first half. Then we traded him for fucking Darin Ruf and JD regressed to the mean and had a 147 wRC+ down the stretch. If they just kept DH-ing JD, they win the division by a couple games.

  6. Kai is one of the best infield coaches in the game. Can’t wait to see what he does with these guys.

  7. It’s just more the messaging about getting stronger up then middle. Then we proceed to have 2/5s of the diamond out of position. Possibly even left field…with Soto in right

  8. Davis was a vocal proponent of both the camo and black jerseys and is therefore persona non grata
