The Cubs Signed This MLB Vet Out Of Pro Day

The Cubs snagged another Pro Day arm! 💪

Congrats to Trent Thornton on signing with Chicago! Thornton threw 42.1 MLB innings in 2025 before tearing his Achilles last July.

The Super Supinator is ahead of schedule with this rehab and ready to contribute. 📈

  1. People on here seem to think if you don't have 95+ in your arsenal there's no place for you in baseball. This guy is painting 90-91 wherever he wants it and spinning it like crazy with command. He's got 15mph between pitches that all come out of the same spot mechanically and look the same.

Velocity is great and all but one guys 95 isn't another guys 95. There are tons of variables beyond the radar. A guy throwing 92-93 can feel faster than another guy throwing 94-95 as a hitter. Where and how they release the ball plays a big factor. If you can't see it well early then 92 looks like 98 by the time you see it. If you're throwing 98 but hitters pick it up quick off your release it looks more like 92 to the hitter. There's a lot of variables that go into making velo matter.

The other thing is it's very hard to throw it by hitters today regardless. 98 and over the plate isn't what it used to be. Guys can catch up to it now.

There's still something to be said about being able to pitch and not just throw. Changing speeds, changing eye level, hitting your spots, it is all still a massive part of the game.

  2. for those who think you need to be throwing 100 mph look at greg maddux. dude couldn’t throw fast at all. all about how you move the ball and understand how to pitch vs all brute force.
