I just wanted to take a minute and share my experience, because I’m still glowing after Saturday’s game.

When I was four, my parents divorced. A few months later, my dad started dating a girl from Denver, and he told us we were Broncos fans. As you can probably guess, they broke up. He went on to remarry twice: he became a Chiefs fan with wife #2, and then a Chargers fan after moving to San Diego.

Out of spite, I stayed a Broncos fan to keep him honest.

I played college football at USD (I actually transferred right as Michael Bandy was coming in), but somehow I’d never been to an NFL game. I watched the Broncos every single week from SoCal, but never made the trip. Now that I’m turning 30 this year, I finally pulled the trigger on two upper-deck tickets at the 50-yard line—section 35—about $320 each.

My girlfriend and I stopped on the way and thrifted some merch (found a Russell Wilson official game-day jersey for $18). I told everyone around me it was Will Lutz 😂

We had a glorious time. Lost our voices. Out-drank the Bills fans next to us. They bounced right after the first PI call. Me & my entire row audibly forced them out.

Then we hit Illegal Pete’s on the way back to our Airbnb.

I totally get it now. Chargers games, Rams games, most LA teams… it’s like corporate tickets getting handed out. But this was the first time I got to watch a game surrounded by real fans. If the price is right, I’ll see you again this Saturday.

P.S. I threw $100 on the Broncos to win the Super Bowl back in August. That ticket is currently worth about $2,300.

Stiddy up, boys!

  1. Dude there is hope we upset the Pats but I would definitely be taking the payout on that preseason bet now. $2300 pays for your trip watching the divisional win and more. Meanwhile our odds of actually winning the SB is like 10 to 1 at best and your payout would only be what, 5 times higher?

  2. Home games are sooo much fun! And playoffs are even better, especially when we win. Glad you had the experience! When are you coming back out? lol

  3. Fess up, you’re Lawrence but secretly a Broncos fan so you disguised yourself to attend and cheer on the Broncos!

Seriously, I’m so glad you got to enjoy playoff Broncos football at Mile High as your first with your girlfriend.

  4. I don’t know why you’re proud that y’all were such dicks to fans of the opposing team you made them leave the game.

  5. No offense man but your dad sounds spineless (at least when it comes to sports). Glad you stayed strong. In my eyes, once you have a team, that’s your team for life. Going broncos-chiefs-chargers is disgusting. I was born a broncos fan and I’ll surely die a broncos fan.

  6. My first game was the Chiefs at home this year!!! It was amazing!! Lost my voice, learned the chants, got a couple of the broncos .05GL jug before it was popular. And ended with a field goal. Being in CO felt like home! Coming from Cali where we have so many professional teams, it was so cool to see a state centered around a single team. Merch in every store and even a Bo Nix credit card 😂 already planning next year
