[Sportsnet] At the same time, there is renewed belief that GM Jarmo Kekalainen could be willing to meet Tuch’s contract demands of around $10 million.

  1. > If Robertson holds strong on his asking price and wants more on a new contract with Dallas than Mikko Rantanen’s $12 million, then the Stars may eventually explore trading their top goal scorer, but they’d need a big scoring replacement. Already missing Tyler Seguin, a Robertson trade would require a significant player in return. He’s not going to go for picks and prospects.

    >There is time for this to play out. Robertson will be an RFA this summer, but unless he signs a multi-year deal he would be on track for unrestricted free agency in 2027. Because of this setup, and since Dallas is chasing a Stanley Cup, a Robertson deal may get pushed into the summer. But if there is a trade out there that Dallas thinks will improve the roster right now, an in-season move can’t be ruled out.

If the reporting is accurate, I wonder if Stars would be interested in Tuch at $10M. A sign and trade with Tuch and Robertson, with the Sabres adding and signing Robertson to $13Mx8.

  2. I love and have huge respect for Tuch obviously. But I think I’d prefer not signing him for eight figures.

Paying guys for past performance is a recipe for a bad contract.

And his skating speed is already materially declining: from 93rd percentile max speed in 22-23 and lower each season to 66th this year

  3. I dont agree with Jarmo on this. Tuch has reached his ceiling and his youth years are behind him. How long does he intend to sign him for? I’d rather focus on some of our other pieces first to see what’s left.

  4. Is it 4×10?

Paying Tuch for 6+ years with the current makeup of the team feels like a mistake.

  5. We’d lose some veteran locker room presence but I agree with many comments that a 6+ year contract for Tuch is risky, he is slowing down. This trade seems like a bit of a pipe dream but I’d dig it.
