Cowboys Fans Get BAD News On 2026 NFL Draft Comp Picks

Dallas Cowboys news today breaks down the 2026 NFL draft compensatory pick outlook for the Cowboys, which no longer looks as good as it did just a few weeks ago for the Cowboys, owner Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones and VP of player personnel Will McClay. As Cowboys Report host Tom Downey breaks down, the Cowboys were in line to net two 5th round comp picks … but the Over The Cap projections have changed and it might be only one 5th round pick. There is some possible good news, with another 7th round pick possibly in line.

Cowboys comp picks for 2026 via OTC: 5th round picks for DeMarcus Lawrence, but the Jordan Lewis projection is now a 6th rounder. Lewis suffered a season-ending foot injury in Week 16 after missing 4 games with a neck injury. That dropped his snap count to 55.8% and that pushed him below the 5th round cut-off. The difference between Lewis counting for a 5th and 6th is about 3% of the snaps this year.

What is a compensatory pick in the NFL? NFL teams are granted comp picks for players leaving in free agency. They can be canceled out by other signings and players who are cut do not impact the comp pick formula. The formula is based on contract APY, percent of snaps played and post-season awards. Over the Cap (OTC) does a great job tracking.

Cowboys rumors from host Tom Downey do indicate the Cowboys could get another 2026 NFL draft comp pick. Robert Jones’ contract might not be counted correctly within the comp pick formula. Jones signed a 1-year, $3.75 MM deal but did not play due to a neck injury. $3 MM of that was base salary and paid out but $750k was per-game roster bonuses, which I don’t think he gets. That would move Robert Jones’ deal to OUTSIDE the qualifying range for the Cowboys. And it would put Chuma Edoga right on the edge of being the last player to net a comp pick.

    BDPA at 12. Trade down from 20 to like 28-30 and pick up at least a 2nd or a 2nd and a 3rd. Got too many holes to sit for two rounds and watch everyone else get better.

  10. To this idiot FO, comp picks are everything. Literally 5, 6 and 7 round picks. They cant draft 1st, 2nds, 3rds, 4ths, especially lately but…lets worry about 5th round and beyond lottery tickets. Giving away last 2 fourth rounders for trash that nobody else wants. Giving away Amari for a 5th when other WRs fetched 2nd, 3rd rounders. This fricken moronic FO doesnt get it. Ofcourse, Mickey Spagnola will justify his bootlicking for this BS somehow. This team has had avg to blew avg coaches mostly since Jimmy left. Its amazing this team is even .500.

  24. I’ve been a cowboy fan since 1965.Thought I had seen it all until Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnson decided to go their separate ways. I’m convinced now that all us Cowboy fans along with the entire Jones family that we will never see another Super Bowl Championship in our lives during this ownership! They care more about their $$$ money than winning for us fans!!! So sad but Realistic!!! 😢😖😡😩
