Why the St. Louis Cardinals SHOULD TARGET Harrison Bader or Miguel Andujar to BOOST Offense
St. Louis Cardinals search for a big right-handed bat heats up as JD Hafron spotlights key free agents Harrison Bader, Austin Hays, and Miguel Andújar. With both Willson Contreras and Nolan Arenado gone, JD Hafron questions if Jordan Walker or Thomas Saggese can emerge as true lineup anchors, or if an external upgrade is essential for 2026. Is defense or offensive punch the greater priority as the roster skews left-handed?
From Winter Warm-Up reactions to front office transparency, JD Hafron dissects how president Heim Bloom’s moves reflect a new youth movement in St. Louis. Hear essential updates on Brendan Donovan, Lars Nootbaar, and Victor Scott II’s development, plus bullpen battles and prospects’ chances to shine. JD Hafron challenges listeners: should Cardinals fans trust the rebuild and embrace the fresh start, or are critical bats still missing to spark true National League Central contention?

What are your thoughts on the Cardinals’ need for a right-handed bat? Which of the three would YOU sign?
Not Bader
Id rather see a Starling Martè
Bader sells tickets.
Cardinals must have a short-term 4th outfielder and preferably a righty with proven bat. Especially if Donnie gets traded. Noot is probably not going to play the whole season. Walker and VSII have questionable bats. Nathan Church is not the solution. Bader fits. Bader went through all the same stuff in his time as the young rookies in STL are going through now, but has seen other teams as well. That's why he may be a better fit. Not as excited about Andujar, but he's experienced and cheap. Could work. Not really sold on Austin Hays.
No on Bader! Yes on Andujar!
No need for any of the guys you mentioned. None of them will bring any real balance to the line up or clubhouse.
Harrison Bader is NOT an improvement at this point in his career.
Bader would cost too much and, I’m sure, is looking for a contender. He also would not agree to be a 4th outfielder.
Darth Bader could patrol left field if we have better legs in center… I respect Harrisons approach to the game
No to both, would rather see Josh Baez get a shot mid-year. Neither of them help the long term
I would try to sign Andujar, but he’s going to cost more than you think. And, would he come to a rebuilding team when there are other teams seeking his services.
If you only want defense with little offense; we already have one. Namely, Victor Scott.
No to bader
JD, a rebuild can be done in one year. Boston already proved that and did it the year after Bloom was fired from the Red Sox. They were challenging for 1st place in their Division before a rash of injuries hit them in late summer, and Bloom's supposedly award-winning Minor league development system failed to even produce one single player who could be a valid Major League caliber substitute for a month while their starting lineup recovered from injuries. The second season without Bloom, they made the playoffs after trading away the deadwood that Bloom brought into their Minor league system, in trade for a real ace starting pitcher, signing a free agent and future HOF 3B, and getting rid of a locker room distraction who refused a request to switch defensive positions for the good of the team. That's how you rebuild, not by lowering your payroll like Bloom does. We don't trust Bloom in StL. He's done a terrible job so far, mainly his only achievement is giving away true MLB players to other teams and paying 80% of their salaries for 2026 and getting nothing of value back in the trades, while gifting our best players to those teams. Odds are we will lose 90-100 games in 2026 even if we sign any of the three guys you've mentioned here. And btw, I don't see any of the three wanting to come to StL with Bloom as POBO.
I would like to see Harrison Bader bacfk.
Cardinals need RBI guys!!!
Miguel Andujar dont' sond all that bad. . IF I was to pick ONE i would pick Mr. Andujar. . I'd not like to see Austin Hayes as much. THe I.L is full enough.
I went to the cardinals caravan when it came to town. I’ve never seen Baez play baseball before but the dude seemed like he was mentally prepared and he’s stout. He could possibly be the right handed outfielder we need in the future
THUMBS DOWN a good franchise doesn't invest in placeholders during a rebuild. Audition the young guys until we get close , then spend on difference makers.
As a lifelong fan I am sad to see how we are supposed to be okay with the perspective of no competing.
Well, if you’re going to do a rebuild, it makes no sense to bring in Harrison Vader and the dude couldn’t hit. He was great defender loved him great personality great on the bass pass when he hit it was great, but the Cardinals were too cheap. And the owners think it’s the fan’s fault for the state. The team is in. This is a bad idea of bringing him back. They need a right handed power hitter.
Miguel or Austin Powers..i like Sagesse or fermin🏆⚾️
Have we given up on Jesse Winker then, he'd be better than any of those mentioned
None of the three. I thought STL was trying to improve.
Adam Frazier hits righties decently and would be an ok 1 year sign, can play if and of
Alex Verdugo might be a good fit too
I can't believe we are considering Bader again. As much as I wanted to see him improve when he was with us the early years, he doesn't look like the offense we need to attract now. You didn't address his defense stats in Center. Is he still elite?
JD, One request to consider for us youtubers watching is to put the stats up on the screen when you are serving the number soup to us. Would help a lot! Thanks for your show!
