(Pelissero) Former Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel informed the Browns he’s withdrawing from their head coaching search ahead of a scheduled in-person interview Wednesday, per sources

  1. More than likely, his agent got the indication that he’s not the leader in that search and was unlikely to be offered the job.

As a result, publicly withdrawing his name makes a more positive impression for his future opportunities than to be regarded as having been passed over. Especially because the tweet goes onto immediately state that McDaniel is still a candidate for Baltimore and Vegas and is interviewing for the Chargers OC gig and that he has multiple offers.

This is an agent play to make his client look desirable, instead of appearing like he got skipped over by another team – especially one like the Browns.

  2. The funniest thing about this is now we have to find someone else to fulfill the Rooney Rule.

  3. My money is him to OC in TB and then take over for Todd after he gets fired next year then they resign Baker.

  4. **Update:** Upon further reflection, McDaniel has signed a fully-guaranteed 20-year contract with the Browns worth $1.7 billion

  5. Damn that’s the state of this org right now. Dudes would rather be coordinators than be the HC in this circus.

  6. Wasn’t he the ghostwriter of Shanahan’s 32 slide powerpoint on why he should be let out of his contract? We should not be surprised.

  7. Shocker, none of the top candidates want anything to do with the browns, so they’re gonna have to throw overpays at 29 year old coordinators because this franchise is a joke. Surely this will lead to a better situation than Kevin stefanski who was hotly sought after instantly after we fired him

  8. That’s a ringing endorsement of the position. Guy with no job, “Nah, I’ll stay unemployed instead of employed by YOU”

  9. Jesus, we’re gonna go with a retread sub-40% win % Jim Schwartz aren’t we?

I like him as a DC, but man….

  10. He’d rather be an OC for a non-shitshow franchise than a HC for said shitshow franchise

  11. I’ve been saying for months there wasn’t a chance he’d come back…

He was the WR coach when we forced Manziel on the coaching staff. He knows we’re a dumpster fire first hand. And he left after that for an assistant job in Atlanta because he’d take anything to GTFO after that year…

  12. That’s alright his shtick would gotten old fast, especially if we started losing.

  13. I’m sure the Brown’s will get their 7th pick and that’s the guy who will turn this franchise around.

Trust the process and renew those season tickets!

  14. How the hell can this guy interview well enough to win a head coaching job? The guy talks like he’s giving a book report but never touched the book.

  15. Regardless of what you think about him, this is embarrassing. There are only a handful of openings and he won’t even do a second interview. Sad
