Rueben Bain Jr All-22 Film Breakdown | Should the Jets draft him at #2? 🎥

A complicated breakdown! Really like Bain as a player. But when you’re drafting a guy at #2, there is a lot to weigh up.
Personally, as I show in the vid, I think Bains skill set and measurable fit better inside on Sundays. Doesn’t mean he can’t play edge obviously, but his best chance to be elite is as a 3-4 DE or 4-3 DE for me.
Went through his pass rush bag, the heavy hands, his issues redirecting and the run game D.
Enjoy
Great breakdown. Our lack of talent on D needs a guy like this.
We have no really good options at #2 overall however I’d take him over Reese or Downs
I think we need to wait and see the measurables. If they are okay we take him at two. If they are frighteningly bad which is what is rumoured currently, we go either Reese or David Bailey
Stops the run good pass rusher all things we need
Always wondered how you became a Jets fan, love your content! Cheers from Nashville
I think he’s better version of JFM. Hold the Edge in first and second down and kick inside on passing downs
I want either him or Tate with second pick
Good breakdown, love your videos fam
This is a good breakdown. I like Bain but I think there definitely are some concerns. Particularly the issues with his production and finishing tackles. PFF was constantly tweeting about how many pressures he had but that seemed to result in very few sacks, TFLs or even tackles. Until the last game of the regular season he had barely any sacks. I think he can be a very steady D lineman who can be good against the run but I don’t think he’ll ever be a gamebreaking D lineman. He seems like a very high floor player who maybe lacks that truly elite ceiling.
It’s interesting to see the contrast between him and a guy like David Bailey who I really like as a player but doesn’t seem like a fit for us. Bailey is the true sack artist in this class and after reviewing their film back to back it was interesting how Bailey was constantly around the ball, catching the running back and finishing his tackles while Bain is getting pressures but not finishing nearly as many plays. Bain is a better all around player but it wouldn’t surprise me to see Bailey in a couple years as a double digit sack guy while Bain is more like a steady presence on a D line who doesn’t get a ton of sacks/tackles
Nice breakdown here, I agree that if the Jets are thinking he should be a DT taking him at 1.02 might be too high.
I dunno. Sure, why not?
Hard to care about a #2 pick when people are running back to college to avoid being a jet. Lol
Jets: finish your degree, or we might draft you!
Quote from Mougey last year:
“One of the more important parts of the evaluation process is each player’s measurables. Being height, weight, speed, hand, arm, length, all those things. Each position has a threshold. Kind of a cutoff line. If his speed is below this, he’s probably not going to make it, or we’ll definitely have to downgrade him. Or if his size or length is below this, we’re going to have downgrade him.
“With that being said, you don’t want to weight it too much. Some of these kids have three years, good body of work on film, and they’re good football players. How much do we want to ding them because they’re a tenth of a second slower than another guy? And that may be subjective, but it’s always going to take a role and play a part in it, and have its weight. How much weight that is, I think it depends by player/position.”
Interesting to see how he views Bain as an overall player while not meeting certain thresholds
He’s a monster. Let’s be physical in the trenches. The Membou of defense.
I get Bailey at 2 also though.
If someone calls for bain, you trade down within the top ten and acquire more assets.
I like Bain for #2. But is it a position of need with Jermaine Johnson and Will McDonald on the roster? That’s my only concern, we need defensive talent but how badly do we need another DL and edge rusher? With Quinnen gone we need DL talent for sure but does Bain really fill that gap? Tough to say, I’ve like Bain as the #2 pick since Moore said he wasn’t coming out, but we’ll see.
Not a great year to be picking second.
Not a jets fan but yes, yes you should draft him. Your o line is solid, Malik the freak from FA and some defensive pieces and y’all are gonna whoop ass
you guys are all nuts. how many d line men are we going to take in first round before we realize it’s not working. See people calling for D first again, after 40 years of failure
Great review, agree with you that it would be a good pick but if he’s not going to be an elite edge rusher then I’d rather spend 2OA on someone like Reese with freakish athletic traits and potential.
