  1. It’s so clear and obvious he would have came here. This really makes me angry

  2. God I hope they’re on Hard Knocks. The Harbaugh + McDaniels dynamic could be incredible.

  3. Have any of you critics considered the idea he wants to live in LA over everywhere else?

  4. That’s going to be a good comparison all year to watch. Hopefully we don’t have to wonder, ‘what if?’

  5. Would have been cool but I’m good if he wants to go to la over Tampa and probably Philly both better fits by a lot than hairball whatever that’s on him. Lions will be fine without him let the two men with giant egos crash and burn in LA.

  6. I was definitely on the Mike McDaniel train but if we’re going to judge Petzing based on the numbers it’s worth noting McDaniel’s offense rankings at the helm since his days with SF in 2021.

    – (2021) 13th in points 7th in yards
    – (2022) 11th in points 6th in yards
    – (2023) 2nd in points 1st in yards
    – (2024) 22 in points 18th in yards
    – (2025) 25th in points 26th in yards

If numbers tell the whole story McDaniel has fallen off and only ever created a top 10 scoring offense once in his career.

  7. How do we know that McDaniels even wanted to coach here? Maybe he interviewed and said “no thanks, I can’t see myself here.” I understand being underwhelmed by the hire, but maybe we were never in the cards for him.

  8. You guys are reading too much into this. Its as simple as he is chasing the fair weather. The literal fair weather. Southern California > Detroit.

  9. I think a big factor people aren’t considering is that McDaniel brings essentially a whole new offense with him. We already have a top 5 offense. What we mostly need is someone to call the plays in said offense, which he is supposedly something Petzing is pretty highly respected for across the league.

If this hire was made before this past year when Petzing was handed an offense that was basically equivalent to our defense the past two years (half of the meaningful starters on IR) but with zero (0) offseason additions, the narrative would be a whole lot different as he would coming off of 2 years of a top 10 running game, and a serviceable pass game despite having a qb that couldn’t throw more than 20 yards down field. Which funnily enough with Brissett starting most of 2025 they finished top 10 in passing, and Goff and co are a hell of a lot better than anything he ever had in AZ.

  10. I swear if Drew Petzig doesn’t pan out imma lose faith in this fuckass organization

  11. I get why they didn’t hire him. He would have only stayed for one season. I get getting someone a little lower that they can build up into what they want. We will just have to wait and see.

  12. Perfect. If our OC hire doesn’t pan out, McDaniel can come take over for Campbell next offseason. The timing is perfect.
