Ben Roethlisberger Endorses Will Howard As Steelers’ 2026 Starting QB

  1. Part of me almost wishes Howard would get a chance so we could see him flame out and never hear about him again.

  2. i wanted to see howard play

i dont know how we can endorse him to start even though it would be great

then again i tend to ignore ben, i have no doubt he has knowledge to offer, but.. its.. not my impression that knowledge is the driving force behind the things he says

  3. Just put him in and stop complaining he either does good or decent and becomes the backup. The end.

  4. It was more of a “fuck it we ball” endorsement than a “this guys the best option” endorsement

  5. He also said he thinks McCarthy would be a great pick for head coach (granted as a second option to a young offensive minded guy)

  6. I like Will Howard’s skill set. He’s strong, he can run, and he has a good arm. He’s smart and can read a defense. The question is can he make it as a starter.

People judge players by the round they were drafted in far too much. Will Howard won a national championship. His throws are on tape. Is he a lock? No, but neither is a first round pick like Pickett.

  7. Howard should 100 percent be the starter this season. If he’s ass? Boom, tank commander. If he’s good? Franchise QB.

  8. Ben is talking like its going to be either Will or Mason. If that was the case, then hes right that you give the young guy a shot, but thats obviously not whats going to happen.

  9. I’m for just throwing people in the spot and hope lol.. It’ll at least be interesting

  10. Aaron Rodgers and now Ben gushing over Howard. At some point people have to wake up and realize the endorsements he’s getting are substantial.

  11. Let’s calibrate ourselves for one second.

Mason Rudolph was a third round pick.

Josh Dobbs and Landry Jones were 4th round picks.

Tee Martin, Brian St. Pierre and Dennis Dixon were 5th round picks.

    —-

Matthew Stafford, Caleb Williams? First overall in their years.

CJ Stroud, Bo Nix, Drake Maye, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes (all relevant for different reasons)? 1st round.

Not hating, it’s just not easy to convince me that we should stand pat when this is the pattern.

  12. No one has done more damage to our quarterback prospects than Ben Roethlisberger so his opinion doesn’t like mean a lot to me.

  13. Pending on who the coach is and it’s from the Shannahan tree presumably what about Mac Jones. Sam Darnold changed his career path after being in that system.

  14. Well why not? We gonna rebuild anyway, either we find our franchise qb if he’s up to the task or get good draft position, win-win

  15. We have a shitty draft spot, like we have for the past 20 years, so roll with Howard and either he is the real deal, or maybe we’ll be in a decent enough spot to draft.

  16. No new coach is coming in day 1 and saying

“Yep, I want to get off to a strong start in this big opportunity. Let me immediately name a 6th round pick the starting quarterback.”

Howard will start 3rd on the depth chart. We’ll probably grab another bridge qb to be the #1. Rudolph will be the 2 and Howard will be the 3.

Howard may eventually win the job but it will take a strong preseason, weeks of good practice and probably a lucky injury or 2.

  17. I like it. Give him a full off season as the #1. Keep Mason as support. See what happens.

  18. I expect the new coach is going to go a different direction and I don’t see Mason Rudolph wearing a Steelers jersey next season.

  19. I mean we know Ben would never endorse Mason. No love lost between those two.

But I mean why not let Will try it out? Ride with Mason and Will for a season. Have them split time. Ease Will into it

  20. Can Will Howard become a Brock Purdy like 6th round sensation? Not impossible, but more likely he will be a backup in the league.

  21. Some thoughts.

    1. The head coach will decide if Will Howard is the starter or not. Kahn will bring in a veteran QB, and they’ll let veteran quarterback, Rudolph, and Howard fight for the job during training camp and preseason.
    2. If the Steelers thought Will Howard was any franchise QB or starting QB, they wouldn’t have waited until the 6th round to draft him.
Will Howard is currently an unknown variable. We haven’t seen him take a single snap in pre-season or regular season. Aaron Rodgers and Ben Roethlisberger might be high on him, but at the end of the day, they don’t know more no more than we do. We will see.

  22. Ben has fucked over this team more than any single person has so I’m not going to listen to his opinion.

  23. Don’t get rid of him till we find out what we got, doesn’t matter who’s watch he was on if he’s got talent

  24. Sure, why not. I mean the guy hasn’t thrown a pass in an NFL game and was a sixth-round pick for a reason but he’s Ben-sized so he’ll be just as good.

Seriously tho I’d be DELIGHTED if Howard was great and stepped in and led the team for 15 years. But it’s far, far, far more likely that he tops out as a backup. Hope is not a plan, gotta get more talent in the QB room.

  25. What has Will Howard done to warrant just giving him the keys?

He’s a 6th round pick that hasn’t taken a live round snap as a pro
