Just an idea from me. Would you guys do this deal?

With Kuminga, we’d get a young player with talent, but this trade is mainly about the two Warriors picks, which could be very valuable.

AD could try to make a playoff run with Curry, and Klay would be coming home. We’d also be getting rid of DLo.

We probably wouldn’t have Jimmy back until around February next season, since he’ll likely be out for 12–13 months. But his contract would expire after next season, so we’d get cap relief.

  1. I do think there is potential to fleece the warriors in a situation like this. They can’t let Curry go out with no help when he is still playing so well.

And Jimmy now has zero value for them this season and probably next.

But I’m going to need a ridiculous amount of draft picks from them. Like a shocking amount. Mavs could base it around AD for Butler contract wise. Thompson seems like a logical piece. You can consider Naji and Gafford.

But you need a boat load of picks and swaps. Many of them will probably come after Curry is done and may be extremely valuable.

Nobody would fault the warriors for overpaying from their future to give their franchise legend one last shot.

I’m not familiar with their available picks, but it would need to be multiple unprotected and some swaps. Kuminga would be fine, but not a priority.

Then next season the Mavs would have a massive expiring contract trade chip and the possibility of a late season Butler return. Plus Butler obviously doesn’t hurt the tank this season.

  2. I actually love this, out of the box for sure. Mavericks get a young prospect in coming and potentially some extremely intriguing unprotected picks. Warriors get one last Hail Mary desperation throw to pair Curry with AD.

  3. Why dude? We already have a perennial injured player , why trade for another one who will not see the light of court anymore?

  4. I don’t know if the Warriors would be willing to trade such long term picks considering Curry will probably be gone by then and they’ll have to restart. But if they did I would be all over it.

I do think they have to do something to try and be competitive in the tail end of Curry’s career. I’d be willing to take their 2026 and 2028 (not sure if we can get 2 for AD but maybe to get off butlers contract?).

People are so quick to diminish Kuminga but he’s an absolute bucket getter and think he’s been hard done by.

    Plus a lineup of

    Philon (hopefully)
    Christie
    Coop
    Kuminga
    Lively/Cisse

Plus whatever young talent they can get from their current vets, is exciting and should make for some fun basketball. They’re all young and can grow together while occasionally adding pieces over time and flipping whichever youngster we need for players that fit better.

  5. Just don’t see the Warriors handing out potential lottery picks for old expensive injured AD.

At best you may be able to do a AD for Jimmy swap with 1-2 lotto protected picks. Maybe 2026/2028.

Even then I doubt they do it because AD being AD basically leaves them in the same situation they face now but with less picks.

It’s been over for them, they made a nice good faith effort to try to compete with Steph but now it truly ends. Basically the 2016-2018 years Dirk had to endure is what Steph enters now.

  6. no this makes us so much worse next year & we don’t own our pick. hell no. if this makes gsw even decent for the next two years, 2028 is worthless. why would i wait for 2032 to even want have any decent return.

AND we’re still in Second Apron hell next season while being worse.

  7. W trade, mavs should do this. I’d even do this for one less pick, but a few seconds instead. You can realistically even trade that gsw pick for your own pick back from the hornets if you really wanna kermit to the super tank
