Why Are the Patriots Only 5.5 favorites vs. Denver β€” and Can Darnold Really Outplay Stafford? πŸ€”πŸ”₯

Nick Wright, Danny Parkins, Chris Broussard, and Coach Eric Mangini break down why the New England Patriots are only 5.5-point favorites against the Denver Broncos despite Denver starting a backup quarterback. The crew then debates whether Sam Darnold can outplay Matthew Stafford, before diving into the Kansas City Chiefs bringing back Eric Bieniemy as offensive coordinator. Later, they discuss Kevin Stefanski’s move to Atlanta as head coach and whether Robert Saleh’s going to Tennessee can deliver immediate results.

  1. Nick: In the 4th quarter, I trust Stafford more than Darnold.

Week 16: Seattle outscored the Rams 24-14 in the 4th quarter and OT.

Edit: I do know that 6 of those 24 points came off a punt return. So, let's call it 18-14. If we take away the crazy wild backwards pass 2 point conversion, it becomes 16-14. No matter how you cut it, Darnold was clutch in the 4th quarter and OT.

  2. i enjoy nicks commentary but if he believes that andy cant be bad at coaching due to his history he must’ve forgot about late stage bill and how horrible he was. andy for 2 years now has made inexplicable calls and coaching decisions as well as not updating his horrid offense despite the league clearly catching up to him. hes been bad and needs to step up if the chiefs are to reclaim their throne

  3. I will never get the Kevin Stefanski glaze, he gets hyped up got his COTY but has done nothing else. Losing record and his offenses aren’t so great. Stefanski is the only coach that doesn’t get blame for the roster they construct 🀣🀣

  4. Wow, twilight zone is happening 😳😳πŸ₯² giving props to our Denver Broncos? πŸ₯²πŸ€—πŸ€œπŸ€› πŸ™ I felt the same..Bo is still developing, Stidham is equipped with knowledge from HOF players and a accurate arm. Ty Nick πŸ€œπŸ€› GO BRONCOS!πŸ’ͺπŸ˜ŽπŸ† and repeat πŸ†πŸ† give Bo a chance to defend the LOMBARDI!

  5. The other two times Stafford faced Seattle since MacDonald became the coach he had two of his worst games as a Ram. He also had that incredible game. But it’s not a given that will happen again.

  6. The rams lost once but if you look at the first game against the rams they almost lost that one too. It’s always the Seahawks struggle with the rams narrative but to me it seems like the rams struggle with the hawks. Take away an amazing punt on that first game and Seahawks would’ve won that game

  7. 5.5 is about right. It's really 8.5 if we add the typical 3 points for the home team. Denver is very good at home, they have a decisive permanent home field advantage (the air) plus they're very loud there. The defense is definitely capable of keeping the game close, and if the Texans were within 5 late with Shroud as the QB, it's hard to see how Stidham could be worse. Plus Davis might be out, making Stidham's job a bit easier.

I could easily see a close game where the Patriots have some success but only put up 20 or so, and the Broncos have some terrible-looking drives but also connect on big plays half a dozen times and also get to somewhere near 20. The big question for the Patriots is if Campbell is going to do a better job and if Hollins will be back to block linebackers and to make catches over the middle. And whether Maye will once again discover that he can step to the left side and run for a 1st down almost anytime he wants.

  8. Every teams defense takes a step back when they have to play on a short week on Thursday night. Yeah Seattle gave up a lot of yards but it was a short week. Seattle now has 8 days rest before the next game

  9. Brian Hoyer was the backup QB for legendary coach Bill Belichick and legendary OC Josh McDaniels for near 20 years. Just so people are aware just cause you’re a legendary coaches first choice for backup does NOT make you a good QB

  10. EB getting credit for the Bears running game is wild considering he refused to run the ball in Washington and helped get Sam Howell pummeled relentlessly

  11. Did you all forget the Pats are the #1 offense by EPA/play?? 160 yards by Stidham and rely on your D is.. a recipe for a blowout, lol. Pats are perfect on the road, too, which is a weird thing not to mention when talking about the Broncos home record.

  12. i thought the rams were a good bet to win it all but the seahawks went to a new level last week and I'm putting the house on the seahawks to win it all.

  13. Drake maye been playing the toughest defenses in the league for the playoffs and they wondering why he getting sacked so much πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ these guys

  14. Hold on. How is it not mentioned that the patriots drafted stidham? They have the MOST tape on him. Beyond that McDaniels was he HC in Denver when stidham started a few games. This element of surprise due to lack of faith they will not be as great as they are saying

  15. It's crazy that they're saying Denver can win with Jarrett Stidham. It isn't going to happen. This is such nonsense. The Patriots just beat the alleged best defense in the league.
