Another 49ers season ends as injuries pile up. What’s the explanation? (SFGate)

  1. This is the main actual reason. The other thing is we seem to not really evaluate players for durability. Pearsall and Mykel both had injury issues in college and we spent 1st round picks on them. Not shocking they’re now hurt.

We’ve had some bad luck too with injuries like the Fred Warner thing just being a freak accident but ya, bad luck, tough practices, and acquiring injury prone players will do it.

  2. I saw a Trent Williams quote the other day about how when he came to the Niners, he couldn’t believe how intense practices were, including walkthroughs done at full speed. Javon Hargrave came from the Eagles and described how much more intense and demanding the practices were here. Chris Conley made comments. Tashaun Gipson. The list goes on. I believe that this is a factor in the injuries.

This article also talks about the comments that Kyle made about believing that intense training camps build a “callus” for the season, which does not seem like the way the human body works.

Unfortunately, for all his talents, Shanahan is also stubborn, and I don’t see it changing.

  3. We keep drafting pre injured players and the practices are so intense, Players are more likely to end up with season-ending injuries within the first five weeks of the season. It also doesn’t help that our training staff, as well as the health and conditioning staff are utter shit at their jobs but ultimately, it all gets attributed to “bad luck” so that nothing has to change. Yes, there is the freak injury here and there. But those freak injuries are more likely to happen because of the issues stated above.

  4. “It’s not about preservation here. It’s about attacking.” Barrows himself even wrote in an August mailbag, “I don’t think there’s any question, however, that the 49ers practice harder and faster than most NFL teams, including in training camp.”

  5. Obviously that sub station in addition to the Indian burial ground the faculty is built on.

  6. Hopefully, reporters can call it out at the end of the year press conference and see the response. A better theory than the electrical current idea.

  7. One huge issue that we have had for years is a bad offensive line. They are not physical.

Offense can’t stay on the field which leads to injuries on both sides of the ball bc the defense is on the field, too

I think it is a combination of things, but this is one of them.

Jaqueh: Before you blocked me, I still saw your comment. 🙂

I am sorry but I do not listen to randos on the internet. The teams we have to beat in the NFC West have amazing offensive and defensive lines. Teams should be built inside out. We need to atleast match them consistently and this is where we get exposed.

Purdy ran over 400 yards a few days ago bc the offensive line collapsed all game long. There was no time and there was no blocking.

Space and time are important at this level.

The offense can not stay on the field, so injuries rack up.

So the defense does not get to rest and they get in injured because of it.

You do not have to agree, but you can atleast be mature about it 😉

    The end.

  8. This is the most obvious reason ever since it came out. While it’s true the niners have also tended to draft more injury prone players, Shanahan simply runs practices too hard. He is the one constant of this team and nothing has changed with injuries other than being lucky some years that it hasn’t been catastrophic.

There is already a lot of luck in winning the superbowl and Shanahan riding his players hard all year long just adds onto it. I’m not out on Shanahan but a small part really wonders if he will ever be able to get it done with the niners if he doesn’t change. It doesn’t matter how good the team is if they aren’t ever on the field.

  9. Does anyone know if more injuries occur at Levi’s or are they equally spread between him and away games?

  10. It’s clearly because I wore the wrong jersey that day. And that day. And also that day. One of these days, I’ll figure out the formula, and we won’t have any more injuries.

When we go 20-0 one season, you’ll know it’s because of me.

  11. Injuries apart from freak accidents (Warner) happen due to accumulation of fatigue that never recovers. This is clear in sports where increased distance ran leads to more injuries (like basketball). Knowing that, it’s clear that running practices extremely intensely is adding to the injury risk and is a factor in the amount of injuries seen over the years.

Training staff either somehow don’t know this (which I doubt) or Kyle thinks it’s worth the additional risk to get players even more ready for games. Either way something needs to change bc that risk cannot be worth it, especially with an aging team

  12. The season has too many games, too many short weeks are allowed, and the practices are too intense

  13. At some point Kyle needs to admit that it isn’t just bad luck. Also, you should only get so much credit for coaching through injuries if you’re part of the reason they’re happening to begin with.

  14. Then STOP GIVING HIM ENGAGEMENT!

for fucks sake you go on about him sucking while giving him free press here.

  15. I think too it wouldn’t be a bad idea at some point to consider a new facility. The NFLPA report card paints a picture that the facility isn’t the worst but it could be better. Ours at the end of the day is one built in the 1980’s and pretty much everyone else in the league and especially in division has either built new facilities since then or is in the process of building a new one(ex: Rams and Cardinals). It’s not some cure-all(it’s part of a solution) but more space in a new state of the art facility/HQ could really help the team and be a selling point to Free Agent’s. It would be tough with how boxed in the facility currently is(Levi’s, the substation, ACE/Capitol Corridor tracks, and the youth soccer facility) to build one on the current footprint, but certainly Santa Clara/San Jose nearby could find space. There’s empty land somewhere on the other side of Tasman I believe(correct me if I’m wrong)

  16. Injury prone rosters is all on the coach. Down vote away but the “callous” building bullshit will always have his players hurt.

  17. Might be pure conspiracy, but have you guys seen the articles that tie soft tissue damage due to long term exposure to electro frequencies? And how the Niners practice facility is right next to a sub station…
