The Direction the Giants Are Actually Heading And Why It Makes Sense
For nearly seven decades, I’ve watched San Francisco Giants baseball — through rebuilds, false starts, real contenders, and championship cores. In this video, I lay out what I believe the Giants are actually doing right now: a quiet rebuild that many fans don’t want to accept.
I break down the current roster, recent big contracts, the limits of Oracle Park, and why chasing high-priced free agents hasn’t worked. I also look back at Giants teams from the 1970s and 1980s to show how this franchise has always had to build the right way — through drafting, development, and patience.
This isn’t Giants hate. This is Giants reality.
Agree or disagree, let me know your thoughts in the comments.

Good night everybody and take care
This is why I had Eric from Hum Baby Baseball to learn how to play Waiting For The Times To Get Better from Crystal Gayle. Give it a listen.
@norcalsports you see Robert got traded to the Mets???

Do you believe this soft rebuild was discussed midway through the 2nd half of last season when the team was was struggling and why Melvin was Fired? A new direction was needed which the soft rebuild can provide?
Dan, I agree with you. After a year of evaluation, the Giants administration realized how much the previous admin devastated the minor league system. The Giants have a strong lower minor league system and it needs to be further developed. I have followed the Giants since 1962 (yes Dan, I am a little older) and watching the Feeney team trade Cepeda for Sadecki, Perry for McDowell, Foster for Duffy, traded Garry Maddox, Gary Matthews, Bobby Bonds, and McCovey. That time caused the malaise we had to deal with in the seventies and most of the eighties. They rebuilt with the Will Clark through the Barry Bonds era and finally the three championship teams. The Giants have drafted very poorly overall since that time. Lately, things are getting better but are a few years away. I am optimistic about Bo Davidson, Dakota Jordan and the young studs from the Caribbean. I think you are right about the silent rebuild. In a year or two the Giants will be a team to be reckoned with. Posey is a smart man with a high baseball IQ and has surrounded himself with baseball acumen. I am hopeful.
Dan, when Joe Lacob bought the warriors, he told the fans that he wanted to add championship banners to the one that the team had hanging in Oakland and he did. Jed York said he wanted to add a sixth super bowl trophy to the case and he brought in Kyle Shanahan and Lynch and the team is always contending. Giants ownership already said that they want to break even and what a surprise that they are always a .500 or so team for a decade. The slow rebuild announcement just sounds like a soft cover story for what the team has been doing all along. There is no urgency to win.
I completely agree. I just had this talk last week. committee FULLY. Webb eats 200 innings a year easy, god forbid but sell high for prospects. I’d gladly accept that as a fan. AMAZING VIDEO AND TAKE
Strong starting pitching is what defined the Giants championship in the 2010's, if Posey wants to replicate that through just the draft then it's going to be a long rebuild. Looking at the Giants top 30 prospects, the top pitching prospect is Whisenhunt who looks like a reliever at best to me with a bunch of arms multiple years away at least. If the Giants trade Webb and Ray to get young pitching like you mentioned that's the best way to go to accelerate the rebuild but send the message that this is a full on rebuild. I don't think the Dodgers go for Webb, he's not the type of pitcher they target (they like high velocity and high spin) and I'd rather see them use their young SP currency for Skubal; Webb might not even crack their play off rotation.
Hey, Dan … how are you feeling after surgery … getting better?
Sorry … I wrote that last comment before listening to your intro … glad you're turning a corner!
They have to make 4 moves to make this team competitive and it's now mid-late January. They're not doing anything to address the concerns so your reset theory is hard to argue against.
I think it's safe to say that the Giants are probably a .500 team again this season. But then in 2027, everything changes with the new CBA. I think this would be a great time to grow from within.
My Cardinals are going through a rebuild currently and our new POBO Chaim Bloom has said several times the rebuild must be done, because we don't just want to make the wildcard we want to win championships. Dan said a lot of good stuff in this video.
So the Giants could have gotten Luis Robert for a pack of gum and a rubber band.. Geez this team is DOA…
To agree with you, Dan, look at what an exciting team the A's are developing … if the Giants did similarly, they would also have the money to fill in blank spots after they have the young guys in place.
Why waste 11 mil on mahle then. Let trevor and carson battle out last spot
What a sad 1976 team … brings back bad memories from high school days.
Chapmans a great 3rd base but so is schmidt
We are probably seeing how bad Farhan was right now. Posey has a complete cultural rebuild and complete farm overhaul. Buying FA's that have qualifying offers and losing draft picks isn't working for Giants for a while. Giants will be good to go by 2028 if owners are willing to spend by then. Let's be real… Tony V ain't going deep in the playoffs in his 1st year. He will be lucky to win 80 and it would be a miracle for him to make the playoffs.
Webb for Sheehan and Sasaki!?!?!? 😆😆😆😆😆 Fucking Hell…Jesus Christ that’s hilariously fucking stupid.
I am very happy with what the Giants are doing right now, not a fan of trading assets for big bloated contracts for player that don't live up to them. Also hate giving up draft picks for signing tendered player that may not workout. I think the giants have some Soto's in the farm. I'm onboard with you sir!
