Hey everyone, I work as a data scout for an analytics company called Sports Info Solutions. We collect data and create advanced metrics across different pro and college leagues while also creating content using the data we collect. I'm a Purdue basketball fan so I wrote an article about Zach Edey. Long story short: his impact is a lot bigger than I imagined when I started looking at the data. It's a free article so please read and also check out some of the other NBA articles we've written this season if you're interested. We are hoping to put out around 2 articles a month. I'll do my best to answer any questions about the data or our company if I can. Enjoy!

>Memphis has an offensive rating of 113.6 which would rank 22nd in the NBA. When on the court, the Grizzlies have a modest improvement to 115.9, which would rank 16th.Â
>Defensively, the contrast is eye-popping. With Edey on the court to anchor Memphis’ interior defense, the Grizzlies have a defensive rating of 99.3, outperforming the current league-leading Thunder at 106.1. When off the floor, their defensive rating plummets to 119.1, which would rank 26th
I’m curious where you’re getting your numbers because they are different from the [NBA’s numbers](https://www.nba.com/stats/team/1610612763/onoffcourt-summary?dir=D&sort=DIFF_NET_RATING).

Even with Edey out, Jaren has rarely played the 5 this year. Jock is the primary center, with some 10-day guys (Bassey and Koloko) having picked up minutes along the way. Even with the current roster (no Bassey or Koloko), Santi will generally play up if need be so Jaren can continue to play the 4.
If you’re trying to get a more accurate representation of Edey’s impact, shouldn’t you do some sort of reversion to the mean with the on/off numbers and offensive + defensive metrics? It’s definitely statistically significant that the team is over 20 points better when he’s playing, but it’s also a pretty small sample size (11 games/284 minutes).
