Take a deep breath and let’s see what Petzing can do!

  1. I mean how’d that last hire go? Lol. He’s acting like fans can’t be wary or something when we had some really hot names on the interview list and ended up with this guy out of them all? Lol. I don’t think it will be a bad hire but Amon-Ra just needs stop talking for awhile, maybe get back on the jugs machine.

  2. I think the fans can be a lil skeptical tbh, especially after the Morton catastrophe

  3. Why don’t you worry about catching passes to prove us wrong about the concern with him. A lot of drops

  4. I tried to get excited over Morton. After 4 weeks I was over it. Even the Bengals game, despite winning, I just kept thinking what are these plays?

I’m gonna remain optimistic but man, I feel like we have a right to be a little worried after Morton, who Dan also hired.

  5. I said this in a different comment yesterday. A fan has every right to criticize a decision made by an organization. The season hasn’t started yet. Petzing could do really well or he could be a bust. We don’t know. A lot of people seem to be trying to leverage themselves into an “I told you so” situation. Lots of name-calling and finger-pointing going around. I have my reservations about the decision but I’m not going to say next season is 100% a bust and nobody should be hoping that Petzing does poorly just so they can say they were right. It’s entirely possible to think this wasn’t the best decision AND want him to do well this year because he’s now the OC whether we want it or not. And him doing well means the lions offense is doing well which is something EVERYONE here should want. I’d be glad to be wrong about the hiring decision.

EDIT: if you’d like to see a prime example of discussion devolving into name-calling check the longer thread in this comment. (Not the one involving OP)

  6. After having an extremely disappointing season and the Morton thing, why wouldn’t we be questioning the hire?

  7. So Brad and Dan can make dozens of right choices but they mess up on one hire, quickly change course when it became evident changes were needed and all of the sudden, everything they do is second guessed. Make it make sense.

  8. I was cautiously optimistic on Morton but trusted the process…then we essentially fired him in a month. It’s understandable the fan base doesn’t like grabbing another guy who got fired from one of the worst teams in the league with that fan base thinking he would never get another NFL coaching job.

  9. You can’t call the fanbase a bunch of idiots saying “most of you don’t know much about anything you don’t know ball”

That’s wrong and Amon Ra should know better than to talk to fans of the Lions like that

You’d be working at the quick lube instead of playing football if football fans didn’t pay to come and watch you play dude

    That’s like business 101

    Don’t attack the customer

  10. We’d still have Morton if we had an OL good enough to protect Goff and run block, I’m dead certain Dan could be full time OC and we’d still average 30ppg

Everything has to be an individuals fault according to this sub, when issues are a lot more deep than that

  11. I get the position of the players, they need to be on-board 100%. However fans went from seeing this organization nearly make it to the superbowl, to missing the playoffs, losing a ton of successful coaches, facing roster concerns…then seeing the Lions in the hunt fir some well sought after candidates to being one of the first to pull the trigger on a guy that most never heard of nor were there rumors of other teams wanting him.

I really hope he does well and we can all come back with hat in hand asking for forgiveness. But for now, I think its fair that fans are confused and concerned. I mean, give us a press briefing so the guy can talk at least.

After the all22 coverage of him I’m coming around and am way more positive on him than at first, but there are still some concerns. (Oline is still a bigger issue than OC IMO)

  12. I feel like this hire is not as big of a deal as what Brad and Dan will do with this Oline. I truly believe a better Oline will fix A LOT for this team. We have too good of a core, just a banged up and younger Oline

  13. Considering Dan has fucked up on not 1, but 2 OC hires, I feel we have a right to be skeptical about his choices and decision making

  14. All he had to do was say that he thinks it will work out and he is excited to work with him.

    Players gaslighting fans is weird.

  15. I get ARSB. He’s like a soldier falling in line with the platoon leaders. That being said Dan has shown some seriously questionable judgement. Hiring Anthony Lynn, Hiring Morton and that’s after “doing all the research”. Starting to wonder if he fell ass backwards into Ben.

  16. I think after decades of torture and a severe drop from last season the fans have every right to be skeptical. You don’t attack fans for having an opinion on a coaching hire. His job is to catch the ball, not attack the customer. Just as annoying as the fan who calls the skeptical fan “bandwagon”. It’s ok to be critical of your team, give me a break.

  17. I heard it on the radio and like a lot of podcasters, he doesn’t always choose his words intentionally. I think saying fans “don’t know much about anything” (paraphrasing) is a bad sound bite to put out there for an active player, a franchise guy at that. He’s watching the playoffs instead of being in them and so he’s probably feeling frustration as a competitor.

I’ll be looking for results this season and not really reading much into anything the coaching staff or players say, doesn’t mean anything unless it translates to wins.

  18. “Do you guys think they’d just hire a random dude?” -ARSB

What would you call the Morton hire, bud?

  19. After 60+ years of failure and embarrassment and a serious decline in success this past season, a guy who has only experienced the Lions organization for 5 years, is going to ask 60+ year old Lions fans, “do you not trust the Lions?” Fuck no. No one does. They dont have the track record that produces trust.

Sorry, but telling the folks that make your paycheck possible to “relax” after seeing this franchise embarrass itself for a lifetime, is completely unacceptable. Every fan base criticizes their team. Especially when their history is attrocious. This isnt strictly a “Lions thing”. Goff, Holmes and now St. Brown. Seems to be an awful lot of arrogance in Allen Park and not much success to back it up.

  20. Campbell missed on Anthony Lynn, hit on Ben Johnson, and missed on Morton. His track record isn’t great and just because you won 2 playoff games doesn’t erase the last 50 plus years some of us have been Lion’s fans. The entitlement of acting like the Brady Patriots or the Mahomes Chiefs is getting old. Lions’ fans have every right to question and challenge until they actually get to a Super Bowl.

  21. Why is he even paying attention to this noise…it’s bad energy don’t chase it ARSB.
