First page is Durans, the second is Abreus

  1. I’m a huge Red Sox fan that lives in the Houston area and I’m not sure how I would feel about it. I guess for Red Sox fans the ceiling is supposed to be higher for Duran than Abreu but last season before he got hurt, Abreu was on fire.

  2. Give me the guy with the higher bat speed, I don’t give a fuck about any other stats. Declining bat speed has fucked us in free agency and old players.

  3. I don’t think they’d do a 1 for 1 for either, fwiw. But I like Abreu. I like Duran better – his base running would be welcome as I think having a real threat there is something Astros don’t have much of

  4. Abreu did improve last season against lefties (.230) but overall in his MLB career he’s slashed .205/.271/.318 against ’em. I guess you’d either have to hope for the best there or platoon him.

  5. I was thinking about this recently. I don’t think that would be a bad trade and I even think you could get a prospect pitcher (not their top ones) included.

BUT I DO think Abreu would exacerbate the swing and miss problem the club has and I don’t think the fandom (or the club) would handle that well.

  6. I don’t want us to lose Paredes, but I feel like a trade is increasingly inevitable. I think Red Sox fans feel like they have leverage, especially with Duran while we feel the same about Paredes. I don’t think a 1-for-1 will be right if we’re losing Paredes, and I don’t think they’d accept that if they were to lose Duran or Abreu.

Even though I think Yordan would be solid in LF, I’m still not satisfied with the status of our OF. Was last year a fluke with Meyers? Does Cam need a little more time (because I think there is a star in that man in the making)? Was what we saw out of Cole the real deal?

I’m still more towards Duran than Abreu, but if the trade doesn’t include either of them, I would absolutely hate it.

  7. very badly. Give me Paredes 10/10 times over Abreu. I like Wilyer but he’s not really that big of an upgrade over our plethora of young OF options.
