Great article about Deni in the NYT, definitely worth a read

  1. You beat me to posting it by 5 minutes lol

I especially liked the way he talks about the hardships he’s went through and the effect of Billups’ and Splitters’ coaching.

Also his opinion on his contract and the Dame quote are something we never heard before, really good read

  2. Nice article. The contract thing is good – doesn’t seem like a guy that’s stressing about money or thinking ā€œI ended up giving them a deal with my play, so now I’m gonna squeeze for every last dropā€.

  3. Such a great article the solidifies everything we know about Deni – a humble, driven guy, hard worker, not a whiner. Tough mentality and the first to praise his teammates. He is such an amazing role model for young kids – you can be super successful but grounded, kind and acknowledging there is always room to do better

  4. In an age where so many players are constantly complaining about their salaries the below quote is pretty refreshing.

It’s $55 million fucking dollars – this actually should be the attitude

    >Avdija is doing all of the above while playing on one of the most team-friendly contracts in the NBA. Avdija is in the second year of a four-year, $55 million deal. And it declines each year: He makes $14.4 million this season, $13.1 million next season and $11.8 million in 2027-28.

    >ā€œDo I regret the contract? No. It gave me a lot of calmness, because I know I’m secure,ā€ Avdija said. ā€œThat was my goal. I told my agent, and he was like, ā€˜I think you should sign for less years,’ but I was like, ā€˜If I outplay my contract, I outplay my contract. We will deal with that later.’

    >ā€œI’m not going to worry about $10 million more or $20 million less. This is what I got, and I’m going to say thank you and not take it for granted. It’s still a lot of money.ā€

  5. > He was traded from Washington in the summer of 2024 for Malcolm Brogdon and first-round picks from 2024 (used to select Bub Carrington) and 2029. At the time, the trade was largely viewed as an overspend by the Blazers for a player who averaged 14.7 points and 7.2 rebounds the year prior.

bro why are they lying we were there. it was not viewed as an overspend. at best it was viewed as a fair trade, most people thought the wizards got not enough for what was their best player

  6. It’s always super underrated how valuable it is to have a superstar best player be completely fine with the coach screaming at them.

  7. You missed the part where he said voices outside the Middle East should stay out of the discussions concerning Israel.

  8. Mods are you really removing every single comment made about the politics part which is a prominent part of the article?

  9. Interesting that I heard about this article on social media for very different reasons, so I came here to find more discussion. Only to find not one word about those reasons it’s being talked about everywhere mentioned anywhere here on this thread.

Is it censorship? Cherry picking favorable information? What’s going on here?

  10. Dang did I just really enjoy a Jason Quick article? This feels like a throwback to before he became jaded and bitter

  11. I was hoping to get articles like this for 2 other players this season, too šŸ˜”. But I’m *ecstatic* Deni is blowing up.
