No, on a trade requiring giving up 1st or 2nd round draft picks. Better to draft highly rated center to provide youth and low cap hit for years. Trade for short term prove it deal with veteran center who fits McDaniel scheme. Chargers do not want to get into cap issues like Miami downstream.
No way a free agent or a draft pick at center.
That would be a great trade — then their first pick can be a guard.
They NEED an excellent center. Gambling on rookie lineman or even starting two is a bridge too far.
Why nog just pay for Linderbaum from Baltimore and not give up any draft capital. We don't have a 5th or 7th rd picks this year why give away more draft picks??
With Minter going to the Ravens, this off season HAS to be all about the O-line and defense interior.
Chargers could trade their 1st round pick and still have a very effective O-line draft
Would be nice to have a connection to another team and not just relying on the Ravens for spare parts.
I think it'd be a great trade for a few reasons. First, why not give the new OC a few of his own chess pieces to work with? Second, lord knows we need a center, and if he turns into a pro-bowler with this scheme, a second rounder is actually a low price to pay.
I'm sorry… has McDaniel been confirmed yet?
Thank you for your analysis. It makes sense. I'd like to see it happen.
Chargers lack Depth @ Offensive and Defensive Coordinators…
Who are the Chargers hiring?
I don't care about McDaniels. Losing Minter is a massive L.
First off Hortiz is a mid draft genius. With that McDaniel center that plays solid rather than training up Linderbaum. Linderbaum probably could fit in however sometimes people play to their strengths and understanding. Having someone that’s already integrated perfect
A 2nd round pick for a 1 year deal is way too rich for my blood. Sure, they could resign him, but I would rather pay a center this year than give up a second round pick and then pay brewer just as much a year later.
The chargers do get a comp 3rd rounder this year and next for Minter leaving, so I’d be willing to see some movement of those picks. Anything much more than a 3rd rounder and a 2027 day 3 pick is probably not in the best interest of the team compared to getting a free agent
Aaron brewer is on his last year of his deal. If you couldn’t guarantee a restructuring of his contract before you made the trade then I wouldn’t do it because you are only guaranteed to have him for one year. I’d rather use the second round pick to draft a cheaper longer term center.
Very good analogy! After watching a little of their presser they said QB isn’t even a thing to fix yet and I ddnt know they are in cap hell so possibly why not if the chargers get outta 1st rnd and if so do this trade and gain a 4th. Sign me up.
Ortiz seems very reluctant to trade draft picks. And they have only five picks in this draft.
And what happens when McDaniel leaves next year for a HC position? We're stuck with a undersized center. McDaniel hasn't worked with a mobile QB like Herbert. There will be new plays he will implement with Herbert skill set.
This would be a great trade for the Chargers. But the only way the Dolphins would trade Brewer would be if they would be moving to a power gap scheme run game. And I don't think that will be the case. Plus, you don't trade an all pro center for just a 2nd rd pick plus give back a high 4th. Sullivan already mentioned Brewer as a building block. He is still young with a good contract. In fact, Miami will likely be extending him this offseason and reducing his cap hit in 2026 anyway. This trade is likely a non-starter. Won't happen.
