The Suns Accidentally Found An NBA Player

He wasn’t supposed to do this…

  1. I watch a lot of Suns games. Not only is he a good shooter, but he's surprsingly good in the defensive end.Tenacious in man to man.Really quick hands.Menace in the passing lanes.I believe he leads the Suns in steals.I think he's the Suns most dependable player in the clutch. He doesnt get rattled or lose his efficiency.

  2. Real ones know Colin is a baller fr. He knows how to win. He’s been a doing this since high school. Villanova champ. G league triple doubles. Ring with the nuggets (via Jokic 🫡) Colin just needed a chance to thrive and a coach like Jordan Ott to give him the green light

  3. As a suns fan, I knew he’d be solid but I can’t believe how good he is. I thought he’d be a solid 10-12 minutes a game not a starter/6th man.

  4. He plays a lot like Steve Nash. That might sound like hyperbole but if you watch how he keeps his dribble in the lane, it's very similar. And he's becoming almost as good a shooter. He's a much better rebounder than Nash ever was. The dude seems to get better every time he plays too. So give him a couple more seasons and he could be a legit perennial All Star point guard.

  5. Spot on analysis of Gillespie's impact! But as someone who covers this team daily at The Valley Verdict, I’ve gotta push back on that title—the Suns didn't 'accidentally' find Collin. This was a targeted move for that 'Villanova Grit' to fit the Jordan Ott system.

You mentioned Anthony Edwards giving him his flowers, but the real 'receipt' is JJ Redick’s frustration. JJ literally cited Collin as the reason teams are getting 'exposed' if they don't play hard. We’ve been talking about this on the show for weeks: the Suns didn't stumble into a backup PG; they signed an identity-shifter.

  6. Collin Gillespie is going to get a huge contract from the Phoenix Suns this year. We're going to be hella dangerous when Jalen Green gets into his groove and gets more comfortable; he's just another weapon for us. We just need a center to back up Mark Williams.

  7. There are many reasons why Mike Budenholzer was fired after a single season as the coach of the Suns. The mismanagement and refusal to play Colin more often and sooner is one of them.

  8. Collin wasn't playing 0 minutes last year because he was significantly worse than this year, it was because Coach Bud just didn't ever really give him a chance. Except for one game last year when Collin absolutely went off. Suns fans new there was something special in him that night… and then Bud would refuse to play him again for weeks! It was infuriating. Coach Ott on the other hand really seems to see when a player is having a breakthrough and works to take advantage of it.
