[Jones] The Falcons have requested permission to interview former Jets GM Joe Douglas for their vacant general manager position. Douglas has been a senior personnel director with the Eagles since re-joining the organization last year.

  1. Joe tried to build a strong line on both sides of the ball but couldn’t do it. His biggest mistake was giving up on Sam but also can’t say it was all his decision.

  2. It’s just further proof that failing on the jets does not negatively affect your career.
Everyone is expected to fail on the jets.

  3. Still believe he did a decent ish job. Just whiffed in critical areas (qb) and mid round picks, so wasn’t able to generate a deep roster.

Drafted more pro bowlers than beane?

Can understand why people outside the Jets would be interested but his first 3 years were much better than his last.

  4. Becton over Wirfs. The entire 2020 Draft. Zach over Darnold. WMD over JSN, Malachi Corley higher than BTJ on the draft board.

    People don’t forget.

  5. I know we have a lot of stans here but how does one rectify dumping Sam Darnold for Zach Wilson? In retrospect… that was the turning point of his tenure. I wonder if we could have gotten a package from Atlanta and picked Chase or gotten a ransom from SF or just picked Chase. It was a disaster process and not just bc Wilson was bad.

  6. He actually was not a bad GM. Picked some good players. However he made 2 critical mistakes that are firable offenses. Drafting Zach instead of trading down and getting a boatload of pics to build a team around Darnold. Second mistake was hiring Saleh as head coach.

  7. Wow, Falcons must want to replicate all the losing seasons and poor roster construction that the jets had under JD. One of the worst gms in nfl history.

  8. Hope y’all like making two good trades and leaving the rest of your roster completely bare.

  9. Russini and Rosenblatt are gonna have a lot of ”inside sources” from Tennessee and Atlanta

  10. I knew all those Woody and Brick Johnson leaks were in an effort to salvage JD’s reputation around the league. Pretty rare to get a second opportunity as a GM.

  11. I am astounded by all of the r/NFL fans who seem convinced that Saleh was a good coach, *and* that Douglas was a good GM.

The Jets were the worst team in football during their tenure. Someone must have been bad at their job!

  12. I can understand defending Saleh even tho im not a fan, but Ill never understand why the fanbase gave him so much slack and thought he was the best, he is no different than Mac

  13. So the Falcons saw the Browns and the Jets over the last 7 years and were like… We want that!
I’m all for people getting a second chance when it comes to getting jobs, but really? This is how the Falcons are going to treat what was aa promising foundation that they built? Doesn’t bode well to me. But who knows maybe these two work magic together.

  14. this might not be a bad hire, hard to say exactly how much of his failures here were his fault or woody meddling

  15. Douglas was horrible. Terrible GM. Abysmal win record. Left the talent cupboards bare, drafted an all time bust QB, drafted busts up and down the 3rd rounds on and his only wins were from no doubt top 10 picks and high draft picks in the 1st round and high 2nd where you’re supposed to hit. The revisionist bs from some people here all these years later is just amazing to see. This guy was complete shit, couldn’t draft a QB, couldn’t build an O line and got Rodgers to tear his achilles on day 1 and we had to trade for Rodgers because of how much he FUBAR’d the QB situation. Oh, and he didn’t have a reliable backup QB the year we got Rodgers.

He’s one of the worst GMs in NFL history by W/L record. One of the worst GMs we ever had. And people need to cut the crap about being forced on with moves by Woody. Woody came back for the 2024-2025 season. Christopher Johnson was very hands off from 2020-2024 and he delegated to Douglas, Saleh and Gase before him. He was pretty good in that regard and let the front office do it’s thing. It’s just that Douglas was a horrible GM. Woody gave him a pretty damn long leash considering 5 years without a postseason appearance or even a damn winning season.

    Come on people

  16. A month or so ago, I got downvoted and made fun of for claiming that it was ridiculous that JD still had defenders, as in, what are you talking about, no one still defends him. I’m thankful for this thread.
