I thought Buster Posey had changed the SF Giants’ ways. Looks like I was wrong.

Oof that final closing line 😬😬

That’s why they will never compete against LA. Owners are more interested in turning a profit. Tired of watching LA spend to make the team better and SF spending $$ on another veteran pitcher coming off an injury. Common sense says if you are consistently a mediocre team, you need to change the way you do business. Oracle is a great park to catch a game but spending 40 bucks on a crab sandwich and a beer is not worth the product they put out on the field.
At the end of the day Buster is spending someone else’s money. If ownership isn’t going to open the wallet then Buster has to piece together a moneyball offseason. Giants just aren’t one of the 3 or 4 teams that appears willing to compete in the current baseball financial landscape.
💯
Honestly building up the farm and competing in 5 years is probably a better strategy at this point. The only problem is that without a salary cap the Dodgers will just keep reloading.
Giants fan’s finally realizing that its not a POBO/GM problem but a ownership problem… is still not on my 2026 bingo card since they will inevitably flood every post about how much they hate farhan or with that posey/farhan mashup or how every move posey makes is a farhan move…. Idk why ya’ll are so slow
He doesn’t set the budget. We have cheap az owners. Need them to sell if we want to do anything in the future.
Greg Johnson is extremely cheap for how much money this team makes off us. What a soulless vampire
Giants have an owner who is a Trump loving, stingy, weird dude. Who doesnt care at all about winning as long as there are profits. Nothing will change until he is gone. Buster is basically just a figure head who has no power at all.
It’s to soon to say until Busters farm pans or not. Besides Bryce who’s still a question mark, there’s no one in the imminent future that feels like they can make a difference.
Why is posey the target here?
I’m hoping this is the year where our fans start to see ownership doesn’t care about winning and as a result stop going to games. Ownership does enough to keep the team looking somewhat competitive to keep people interested and coming to the park but they’ve shown for close to ten years now they aren’t willing to do what it takes to truly invest in a championship caliber team which is either going all in with big spending or committing to a full rebuild. Instead it’s sign a few free agents here and there or trade away a few veterans at the deadline when the team is out of contention but there is never a decisive direction taken.
Feels like they don’t want to do anything before the lockout, at most maybe the work a trade in, but it’s clear the Giants are not signing any more big names this season.
This sounds so much like warriors fans going into this season. The big acquisition was Devers.. a top 20 hitter in baseball.. it just happened at the trade deadline. He would have been the 2nd best player acquired.
Obviously, I wish they had spent more. But with the probable strike coming 90% of team aren’t spending. It’s hard to get on the team in January when there is still time and a decent amount of solid vet options available. Plus, they need to see what they have with these AAA SPs / Eldridge.
I think giants fans are sleeping on how good Devers is. He was coming in mid season after a rough ending in Boston. I think he rakes this year. Year 2 Adames should be better.
It’s all ok tho… we will resign verlander
I think it’s pretty telling it’s on the owners and not Posey. His hands are just tied and he can’t do the job he wants to. If it’s frustrating for fans like us, it must be really frustrating for a competitor like him.
On the plus side, I’m going to be able to see so many more bands this year with all the money I’ll be saving on tickets, parking, gas, and concessions.
The strategy of sitting on their hands this year makes no sense. I can hear Larry Baer in the meeting talking about Bryce Eldridge being promoted is like adding a marquis free agent.

At this point you might as well go full A’s and trade away all of your talent for youth if we’re not going to spend money or sell the damn team to someone who wants to win
Buster is just being used by Johnson and Co. as a scapegoat, unfortunately or to divert fan attention away from what the FO is/isn’t doing. Ownership has no intention to change their ways like they didn’t when Farhan Zaidi was with the team.
Until we want to spend like LA, we’re kinda fucked. HOW FUCKING EVER, there is a route that Toronto took that had them a few outs from knocking them out. Grab a Hoerner and get some more pitchers and let’s fucking ride out…. DO SOMETHING
Im withholding judgement until spring training, but it’s hard to see the Giants being more than .500
as is.
They don’t care enough about winning to spend and they can’t build a competitive farm system with a regular supply of talent. It’s just a mediocre organization coasting off rings from over a decade ago.
Their tv deal money is going away, cheap ownership
This sub downvotes anyone who critiques the franchise and says that you should stop watching. The owners are settling for .500 mediocrity because it keeps the stands full and allows them to turn a profit
The Giants aren’t one or two expensive players away from dethroning the Dodgers. This is a deeply flawed team that’s many, many additions away from competing with them.
I’ve said it elsewhere but they need to flush their entire minor league coaching staff. It’s unbelievable that they have had so many players pop up on the top 100 prospects lists only for them to fail almost immediately when promoted.
Their hitters regularly look overmatched and their pitchers? Tend to blow up after a month and then they can’t find that spark they had.
Ownership is painfully cheap though and letting Rodgers walk, even after everyone thought we were getting him back after that trade earlier? Makes that move look downright stupid.
They keep saying “defense and timely hitting,” so that’s why we’re running it back with one of the most flawed defenses in baseball? (Outfield) That’s why they haven’t committed anything to pitching except Webb?
Maybe they’ll prove us all wrong? Maybe after the inevitable lockout and complete change in how contracts and cap space is done, they’ll come out swinging? But it’s also just as likely that they’ll sign some guy who was a Cy Young pitcher seven years ago who’s coming off surgery.
Why i stopped going to Giants games since 2023. Why the hell should i spend my hard earned money when the team clearly doesnt want to win championships?
Nice to see people finally waking up…I’ve been posting this here (and getting criticized) for almost three years. THE JOHNSONS DONT CARE ABOUT WINS! They care about profits…Buster was a smokescreen. His hands are tied!
I won’t fully defend Zaidi like I used to (Kapler turned out to be an awful pick for manager post ’21) but I’ll never be not be convinced that he was restrained from implementing a full on farm system rebuild by ownership in exchange for the milquetoast “we’re gonna compete as far into the season as possible approach” that always led to us doing nothing at trade deadlines. Instead we were a mostly mediocre team, with little adjustments made at the fringes of the roster, and the occasional swing and a miss at big FA deals
Okay sure ownership won’t let him spend for the big free agents, but aren’t there more marginal cheap moves that he and Minasian could’ve made that could still improve this team? Like sign a veteran bullpen arm with closing experience? Sign a platoon bat to go with Gilbert in RF? Sign a swingman for rotation depth? Doing something is better than sitting on our hands and rolling the dice with the current holes on the roster

It’s early, Holmes. Anything can happen.
