Will Steelers Spend Enough to Succeed? | Steelers Morning Rush

Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it’s the the idea that the Steelers and Art Rooney II might not be willing to spend what it takes to get the Steelers in line with the rest of the NFL.

Under Mike Tomlin, the club had one of the smallest and cheapest coaching staffs in the NFL, and UPMC Rooney Sports Complex has been roundly criticized by players when they’ve been given the opportunity.

So is that a problem? Alan breaks it down. #steelers #herewego #nfl

  1. Are the Steelers SO insular that they don’t see what’s going on with their peers and competition? That’s amazing for a billion dollar organization.
I hope you’re right, and that this new era brings the organization into the year 2026. The time is long past for them to be trying to live by their history

  2. Hi Alan. Agreed, that “practice” facility is bonkers. Question, I know QB, receiver and DB will dominate the upcoming Steelers draft talk but the D-Line and O-Line rebuild is still a work in progress, right? I’m encouraged by what we’ve resourced to the trenches in the past few years but I still think they are a few pieces short of being complete. How would you allocate some of this years draft picks to finish this rebuild effort as it relates to the lines?

  3. Maybe the staff but the lack of facilities is on art.the Rooney's were stubborn about building Heinz field on north side instead of building somewhere wear expansion wouldn't be a problem.

  4. First off, almost 1000 views in 4 hours on a frigid January afternoon with the Steelers already eliminated? I'm glad to see the due growth finally happening.

Like Alan said, the Steelers paid Mike T extremely well. The organizational shake up that comes from a head coaching change is just what I feel they needed to step into a more modern way of doing things in various aspects, like having an average size staff instead of the smallest by a lot each year.
