True?

  1. I wish he had a bit more skill but I could say that about several other guys too. He works his ass off. I like him.

  2. Krebs is a perfectly fine 4th line player and you need energy guys like that. He is what he is and nothing more which is fine.

That being said, I think the second part is a weird point to make. He wasn’t a 7th round pick and was a first round pick who was a key piece to the Eichel trade. Of course people will have higher expectations for him than Kozak. Krebs can be a great 4th liner and still be disappointing relative to what you expected.

  3. I like Krebs, but I don’t like him on the top line.

The NHL draft is as much of a crapshoot as the MLB draft is, especially when you get past pick #10. I think that everyone needs to reset their expectations around first round picks.

    Taken after Krebs in 2019:

    Thomas Harley (very good)

    Lassi Thomson (who?)

    Villa Heinola (who?)

    Samuel Poulin (who?)

    Tobias Bjornfoot (not good)

    Simon Holmström (ok)

    Phil Tomasino (meh)

    Connor McMichael (good)

  4. Krebs is great in his role.

But fans do seem to be much more interested in trade trees in recent years. If you’re a newer fan who wasn’t in the trenches during the Eichel drama, the return on paper doesn’t look phenomenal.

Depending on what happens with Devon Levi, the same thing will probably happen given how Reinhart became such a monster goal-scorer after the trade.

  5. Personally, I think he’s pretty bad. Can’t finish, makes bad passes, isn’t big enough to throw his body around, takes dumb penalties. But all of this is correctable or teachable. What isn’t teachable is the effort and fire that he brings every shift.

  6. For me it’s the underperforming as a 17th overall pick.  But, he’s on track to having his best season yet at 33 points!

  7. This dude is the dagger in the heart of every team who attempted to come back on us.

Also, notwithstanding, I looked at the handle and I was like I wonder if that comment was from “the Joe Marino” and then read on and had to laugh at myself

  8. When the Sabres were skating in mud, only Krebs and Malenstyn were using their speed effectively. That was instrumental in securing the win.

Plus they accounted for half the Sabres goals, on a SHG and an ENG.

  9. I legit don’t know a single person who says they don’t like Krebs. Who are you associating with???

  10. I don’t hate Krebs, he works hard and knows how to play his role. Every team needs a player like him. When we got him he was supposed to be more of a playmaker and those first couple season you could see his passing/setup ability. After moving down the lineup and eventually being on a line with Okie and Girgs they taught him how to be a role player and a grinder. He’s basically the new Zemgus, who became a polarizing player on our team the last few years he was here.

My biggest issue with Krebs is he really needs to hit the gym harder and put on an extra 15-20 lbs. I saw him in Wegmans over the summer and I couldn’t believe how lanky he looked for a pro hockey player. I workout for fun and as a hobby and I’m 2 inches shorter, but I’m 205 compared to his 188. Some more size is needed for his role and with the edge he plays with when he gets into scuffles.
