Don’t like it. But I get it. Hopefully Daboll runs in there and is Allen’s guy.
Yikes
Mike… c’mon man

For all of the people concerned that Harbaugh and Hortiz got caught off-guard by McDaniel, it sounds like they knew this was the plan all along. The initial reporting did not do a great job making this clear, but now we know where we stand:
If McDaniel does not get an HC job, he will be our OC.
For what it’s worth, I think the odds of him getting an HC offer are low. He wasn’t exactly successful in Miami and Buffalo saw that firsthand. The Raiders also have other candidates that they have ahead of him.
Also, if Mike does go to Buffalo, I wonder if the Chargers would consider Rivers as an OC candidate…
It’s been this way the whole time.. this is why you temper your expectations, especially with this team lol.
Can we PLEASE stop the “what are we doing??? We look so dumb right now” Comments.
Jim and Joe have a plan.
Fans are fucking SPIRALING. 😂 I’m beyond worrying over this now and will just accept whatever the fuck happens at this point. What a wild past few days. 🍿🎢
Did we seriously think McDaniel wouldn’t get interviewed by the bills? They are interviewing Rivers and Lynn, why not McDaniel as well? Doesn’t mean he’s their favorite, or even in top consideration. I always had an asterisk next to my excitement knowing he’d still have to make it past the Bills (not really concerned about raiders).
Bills ownership has been incredibly ass out this past week. And they’ll need to get some receivers, all while the defense needs improvement too.
I know the money would be good, but I’m hoping McDaniel is just going there to create a connection there in case the position is up for grabs next year. Otherwise, I’d be a bit shocked McDaniel wants to head into that mess.
I mostly don’t get why the chargers wouldn’t host more interviews. No harm done looking at other candidates while we’re waiting.
idk but I feel like bills are going to be interviewing everyone possible for the next few weeks to find the best guy. I still think they messed up firing Mcdermott and can potentially end up looking very dumb next season. Mcdaniel is coming off a bad stint with Miami and feel like taking an OC role to rebuild his resume is a better long term plan but I guess you also cant turn down an opportunity to coach a mvp level qb
This is how I understood it from the beginning. He declined the Browns completely, but I think he would love to take the Bills Head Coaching job.
I don’t think the issue is the “I’ll be your OC if I don’t get a HC job.” It’s the decision to put all of their eggs in this basket.
I just cannot fully get behind ending/pausing the OC search while your #1 option is still exploring all options.
McDaniel taking the Raiders HC job would be worse.
This is based on nothing other than my opinion, but between Brian Daboll and Mike McCarthy, I’d be fine with either of them as offensive coordinator going forward
It was mentioned from the get-go by multiple (credible) sources (i.e., not fans with a podcast). Y’all are losing your sh** over nothing, and it’s not a good look.
Breathe, dear hearts.
Can’t believe this team put everything on hold for this dudes answer. The OC interviews prior to mcdaniel are not worth anything. Maybe putting fire (kept interviewing potential OC ) under Mcdaniel would have sped up the process.
So I am assuming we’ve been quietly interviewing other candidates or have a #2 already selected if we knew this all along?
Media knew what they were doing initially, and made it seem official, and they did for one reason and one only
Intentially create controversy. Thats what modern journalism has devolved into.
Buffalo is currently 9 degrees with a winter storm warning, I remain hopeful that McDaniel experiences that and says “hell nah” 😂
People need to chill…. Sheesh it’s January 23rd
Makes sense.
What is funny is that this means that he really, really didn’t want to interview for the Browns.
Great so Harbaugh and Hortiz hear that and go, “Great! Cancel all the other interviews”… like what??
The online betting markets have McDaniel with a 24% chance of getting a HC job
Screw it, bring back our boy Rivers!!
This is simply standard operating procedure for something like this. Harbaugh is never going to stand in a way of someone getting a head coaching job, but he did get a commitment from McDaniel to be his coordinator if that falls through. Everyone acted appropriately in this and everyone should calm down and just wait to see what happens. If McDaniel winds up in Buffalo, then good for him. If not, then great for the Chargers.
This was always the case and everyone just ran with the Chargers hired Mike McDaniel headline instead
That’s fair. I love that Jim respected that, but also knows that if the right HC job doesn’t happen that we’ve got our man. Would suck if McDaniels waited 3 months before accepting a HC job, only for us to lose all those potential other OC’s in the process. I trust in the Harbaugh way.
Funny that they’re interviewing him in Florida so they can get him to agree without experiencing the Buffalo Winter. Worried if they make him go there and he freezes his ass off he says no thanks I’ll go to Sunny Los Angeles.
glad a major network finally told it how it is so Twitter and people on here can stop crashing out. Yes we all want Mike, but IMO, Buffalo and the Raiders position is all but said and filled. Daboll to the Bills, Kubiak to the Raiders.
It’s a very very risky move for us and if it doesnt pay off im more than positive Hortiz and Harbaugh have a solid solid backup plan. There are still a lot of great OC’s out there to choose from. McDaniel is probably by far the greatest but there are very strong alternatives still on the market.
Just another reminder that nothing is easy when you’re a Charger fan.
Please Phil coach the Bills so that Mike comes to us!
So the bills fired a guy who had at least one playoff win for five consecutive seasons and took them to the afc championship twice (losing very close games to a dynasty), and they’re gonna bring in a guy who lost two WC games and then missed the playoffs two years in a row?
I’d be fuckin pissed if I was a bills fan.
