Thank you Hughes and gorton as a die hard Habs fan I am sooo happy and relieved my beluvd Habs are no longer in the tank n loss n told to be patient phase. Like a train coming out of a years long black hopeless tunnel today WE are in the sunlight of joy hope happiness and belief in a very bright future! I have neighbour a wings fan texting me wow Habs are for real. I said it’s only going to get better ! I’m 62 been a Habs fan forever and wait for each game like a lil kid and follow podcasts for info. I have 3 Habs tattoos a habsmtl plate on my car a Demidov jersey hanging on my wall. Die hard. Thanks Kent and Jeff and Marty and players and support staff ! GO HABS GOooooooo !!!
Outstanding GM
We are so lucky with this current management!
Dr. Evil on pod?! I’m Kidding I love Kent lol
Let's move Laine and get Dougie Hamilton to play with Lane.
How about moving Demidov to the top line and putting Laine with Slaf and Kap? Slaf would create space for Laine to operate, and Kap could focus more on defensive assignments and supporting the other 2. That's the only spot I can see for Laine
Didn’t know Arpon had a nose ring
Laine is washed up. He will end up in Europe.
"We're willing to do a lot of things, especially if it's a hockey trade… Where we bring a player in that we think makes us a better hockey team, even with whatever would be going out against that player, if that player also could grow with us."
This is an interesting quote. Now that the identity of the Habs is starting to take shape a little bit and they have more pieces, I'm wondering if we might see some "lateral moves" for players that management feels add an element the team is lacking. For example, with Matheson and Hutson on the left side, as crazy as it sounds maybe Guhle gets moved for a RD or a competitive top 6 forward of similar age and experience. The "even with whatever would be going out" line makes me think it's a very real possibility
..Habs top 2 scorers are 5ft. 8in. how can you contend in the playoffs….softness is evident and post season physicality requires size and attitude the Habs do not have..
I like Laine a lot as a person, and in his prime, he was one of the best players in the league. Marc-Andre is right, they're allowing a lot of goals and at the end of the day a hockey game is a goal scoring contest. That being said, even if they are scoring a lot of goals right now, they can score more goals, particularly on the powerplay which has been a complete momentum sink recently. It's been terrible. Yes, allowing 4 goals a game is bad. But you still win the game if you score 5. It's a gross oversimplification, but it is still true. Maybe Laine doesn't help keep the puck out of the net, but if he helps you score more, it can still be a net positive, even if it doesn't help a weakness, if it improves a strength by an amount that outmeasures the negatives, its still an improvement.
I think he deserves a chance.
Laine is done with the habs, they already made a decision on him
He is gone
I love how Hughes mentioned compete as something the CH are always trying to improve but at the same time I am still not sure on the signing of Dobson for 8 x 9.5M.
That wasn't Hughes. Nice try.
Would have been nice to ask Kent about specific players , so vague with questions ??? , though a great guest to grace your show .. Maybe some progress next time around .. Go Hab`s Go !! Cheers …
Really enjoyed this conversation. Thank you!
I've always called Laine a great white shark who is scanning the ice to attack and score. Props to Basu for seeing the same and using that reference.
veleno should be scratched for blais already, not because he is bad but because we made a move that made his role not as important on this team now, we have evans and danaults as bottom pairing centermen. he effort is there but so is blais'. Laine should definitely get a shot if u dont believe he deserves a shot, im not sure how anyone could agree with that
In two years Mcdavid might be on the trade block if Edmonton is not resigning him.
"Irregardless"? Ouch, Arpon…
