RIP to the 1970 MVP. Drafted 3rd overall in 1957, he played 17 seasons, all with the Niners, then was on the Senior PGA tour post-playing career. His number 12 is retired by the team.

I first saw John Brodie play in Kezar Stadium in the 60’s and then at Candlestick into the early 70’s. Great player who should be in Canton.
RIP. My friend’s grampa, he had a mural on the wall in the old Burger King in Mountain View, I would always sit at his table.

As a kid I listened to the 49ers on the radio. I will always remember Lon Simmons calls. Especially, “Brodie, back to pass.”

Brodie to Gene Washington was a great passing combination. Those Niner teams were really good. Dallas keeping us out of a couple super Bowls was where the hate for the Cowboys started from.

Brodie was before my time (born in 82), and I really wish I could have gotten to see him play.
I have a ton of respect for those pre-Walsh teams and I don’t think they get the respect they deserve.

I think my 49er fandom began in the late ’60s (I was living in the Midwest and was kind of a Bears fan…and hated the Vikings.) I still remember a long pass Brodie threw to Gene Washington in a televised game after a fake that not only fooled the opponent but also the cameraman. He was truly artful. RIP.
John Brodie, the first niner quarterback I ever loved, I had his poster up in my childhood bedroom along with gene washington. RIP
I have been a 49er fan since high school. Brodie was the QB at the time. Dick Nolan was head coach. I went to high school for two years with Dick, Jr.
