  1. Hope it can make it work better in Tampa Bay, he got put in an awkward position in the second half

  2. Like most things, the truth is likely somewhere in between, but I would never be skeptical of Mullins opinion as a player. He’s been a professional player for a long-time now and always says things I’ve found relatable as a normal day to day person. I think it was a mix of a cold stretch, fueled by the pressure of NYC media and leaving the only team he’s ever played for to that point. It is a massive change in a very short time-frame.

Coming to play in NYC, especially mid-season is a tough task, especially if you haven’t been around the block with other teams prior and used to playing with a team for a long time (it’s the same reason I believe Helsley struggled). They both were used to their positions, and being uprooted for the first time and asked to play somewhere different is a bit of a mind-fuck, even if you try to prep for it.

It’s why Mets fans loved Wilmer so much, even though he has ended up succeeding, but even then, when he left he at least had a full off-season to get used to it, compared to sudden trade and immediate lineup with new teammates.

  3. Seems like a nice guy so I wish him the best but he was one of the worst deadline acquisitions we ever had. I was shocked reading that to see he had 2 HRs. That seemed like a lot.

  4. Didn’t really say anything bad here, even if the post as usual is leaning on him to try and give a “the Mets are stupid” answer lol

  5. I live in the DC area and my wife got our family Orioles tickets for a Father’s Day weekend game against the Angels. It was a back-and-forth game. I got to see Mike Trout hit a home run and Mullins hit a solo shot that gave the O’s the lead in the 6th which they never gave up.

This alone made me really excited when the Mets got him at the deadline. Too bad his time here was a dud, he seems like a good guy. Wish him the best in TB.

  6. Am I crazy or did he not say anything incorrect?

    1. Playing in NY is a different type of pressure.
    2. Huge change in life which is stressful.
    3. Pitching struggled.
    4. When pitching was good offense was bad.

    That’s all correct info.

  7. Sometimes it just doesn’t work out. He still seems like a good dude. Hope he does well with Tampa.

  8. I have no ill will with the guy, seems like a nice dude. He went from pressure less Baltimore to us having been fucking bad for too long a stretch.

  9. Love how so many believe that playing in NYC is just..different than other places and brings a whole new level of pressure.

Then in another thread they are so happy we have a whole new roster of players who haven’t played in NYC plus our new closer who sucked playing in NYC.

  10. He didn’t say anything wrong in this interview. He seems like a nice guy and I wish all him all the best with the Rays.

  11. I appreciate his honesty. I was hyped when he came and was disappointed but it just seem like it didn’t work out and he hit a slump when we needed him to not. That said I like the guy and hope he does well and I commend him being honest

  12. Articles like this make me think letting Pete walk was an even bigger mistake. Not everyone is built to play in NY.

  13. If he’d just run hard around the bases that one play where the left fielder got hurt instead of just watching and worrying about the opponent and getting thrown out at second, it’d be a different story all together.

Sad tho because I remember when we traded for him oriole fans were really upset and he seemed like a great teammate/human.

That being said, never ever ever ever deal with the Orioles ever again at the trade deadline
    Ever.

  14. No hate for Mullins. He wasn’t the problem last season. Wasn’t the solution we needed either.
