[Brown] Hearing that the Mets are still looking to sign a pitcher and talking with teams about spare parts & potential contracts they would be down to shed.

  1. We shouldn’t be trading Berrios for spare parts. Berrios is really good. I don’t understand why we’re trying to get rid of him other than having “too many pitchers” which is kind of an impossible sentence.

  2. Friendly Mets lurker here. I thought we were done, but who knows. Who would you like that is reasonable from our team at this point to help the Jays, and who would you give up? Some players I think are untouchable:

    *Anyone we just acquired

    *Soto

    *Lindor

    *Alvy

    *McLean

    *Tong

    *Torrens

    *Baty (probably)

    *Holmes

    *Benge

    *Ewing

    *Reimer

    *Clifford (maybe)

*Voit (I don’t think we can trade him)

    *Peña (too much upside)

*Most of the relievers (it’s hard to find good ones)

So this leaves only a few:

*Manea (he’s expensive and looking for a bounce back, you probably don’t want him)

*Senga (cheap but wants to stay with us and seems to be something management is respecting – which is nice because he’s my jersey dude)

    *Peterson

    *Vientos

    *Mauricio

*Taylor (but he’s a 4th outfielder, not every day)

*All the other prospects (some of them have a lot of upside so we might be hugging them)

Does anyone want any of those guys? Also, I could be wrong – I thought Jett was untouchable but we got an ace for him so…

Before we traded Sproat and Jett, the scuttlebutt was that we had the best prospect list, and now we’re #5. So we’ve got a lot of prospects but that doesn’t help you this year. Does anyone on the available list help you guys get to the WS (where maybe our teams face each other 🙂 )?

I think maybe only Vientos. He’s got a lot of upside, but it’s a gamble. Most of our podcast commentators are saying we should hold onto him to see if we can get anything good out of his bat again, though. Mauricio has issues that might not be solvable – but then again he also has a lot of upside that might be solved with a full season of playing in the big leagues. I don’t know.

    Edit: to fix formatting.

  3. The Mets are such a weird franchise. The owner truly wants to win, is willing to spend and doesn’t care about losing money to be competitive. At the same time, the organization seems to have zero idea about the concept of roster construction or negotiating. They just seem like they’re in a constant state of panic and trying to steal attention from the Yankees.
