A friend asked me last week who I want as the Raiders head coach.
I said Mike McDaniel felt most exciting.
Since then…
McDaniel interviewed with Raiders
Agreed to become Chargers OC
Scheduled interview with Bills
Scheduled interview with Browns
Cancelled interview with Browns
Cancelled interview with Bills
And as of this morning, Dianna Russini said McDaniel is still “in contention for the Raiders’ head coaching job.”
Is that exciting enough for you?
Don’t get me wrong, McDaniel is not a perfect candidate by any means.
Like how Miami froze in cold weather games during his tenure with the Dolphins.
Or how McDaniel’s team played in any weather games last year.
The Dolphins had seven double-digit losses and gave up 27 or more points eleven times in 2025.
Pete Carroll’s Raiders gave up 27 points just eight times.
But unlike Carroll, McDaniel’s expertise has never been defense.
Some might say the 42-year-old McDaniel, known for lululemon joggers, capri pants, Yeezy sneakers and designer glasses, is downright offensive.
He is thought to be one of the most creative play callers in the game today.
And on some level, I think that’s exactly what the Raiders need.
I would love to see what that chef could cook up with ingredients like Fernando, Ashton and Brock.
McDaniel has built a deep resume in his 19 NFL seasons, coaching for seven teams in a bunch of roles.
If you an arborist, he comes from the Shanahan tree, Mike and Kyle.
Now do I think Mike McDaniel will be holding up a Lombardi Trophy one day wearing a Silver and Black seersucker suit?
No, not really.
But is that really the bar for our team right now?
A team that has two winning seasons in the last 23 years?
McDaniel did it twice in his four years in Miami.
If he becomes our sixth head coach in the last six years, this could be the perfect football move.
Offensive, for how he coaches.
Defensive, for blocking the Chargers.
And with our young core, McDaniel might be the right guy to create a special team in Las Vegas.

He isnt a perfect candidate but neither is kubiak, la fleur or Webb. IMO the best candidate left is Shula but it doesn’t seem like we are looking for a defensive minded coach.
For offensive minded coaches kubiak or mcdaniel are best choices. I like Webb alot but he is way to inexperienced to pair with a rookie qb. That’s the type of hire that could easily blow up in our face and extend our hell at the bottom.
Nobody is going to read an AI novel of slop
Am I the only one who really does not want this guy as HC? He’s a great offensive mind but he had paper soft teams and his teams were notorious for losing to good teams every time and beating the bad ones.
Idk I want someone to come in and set a strong culture for the kids to build around and I don’t think Mike is that guy. I don’t want a retread I wat one of the new kids to see if they can grow into something special. He’s just so uninspiring to me.
Seeing all my homies wearing capris
As OC maybe but head coaching? Nah
Fuuuck no
Don’t hire someone that is desperate for a job
I don’t like this guy. He just doesn’t look like a leader of men.
If they hire him, hopefully they pay him enough to by new pants, instead of having to wear the same ones he did when he was 10, back when he was a foot shorter.
I wouldn’t hate having him as an OC or a HC.
Sure as the OC. Pass as the head coach.
He’s a coordinator not a HC.

At this point I think McDaniel is just swinging his dick around and trolling teams.
OC yes, HC no
I’m acoustic she’s acoustic he’s acoustic……wouldn’t you like to be acoustic tooooo….be acoustic you’re so acoustic.

I love the post itself but why is there a space between each sentence lol
Do. Not. Want.
I agree he has a brilliant offensive mind and would get the most out of Mendoza. Kubiak is also a great pick. I would be happy with either.
That’s gonna be a no from me dawg.
He’s a clown. Pass
I’m not a raiders fan but McDaniel would absolutely help Mendozas development if you guys go that way
I agree with this. Is he weird? Absolutely, is he kinda cringey? Absolutely. But so is Mendoza, and the best thing for a rookie QB, is an offensive coach, and a coach that wants him to develop.
He won’t coach for us lmao
Between him and Brian Daboll, I’d be happy.
I wanted Kubiak (klint) because I didn’t think MIA was going to fire mcdaniel. If they got mcdaniel, then took webb away from DEN, that would be amazing.
Please No
Does he really feel like a Raider to you tho? His Miami teams were speed based and didn’t feature any of the physicality and culture I’d ideally like to see out of our team. The Raiders aren’t meant to be a finesse speed team with a small fast skill players and a bunch of spread motion stuff. Idk maybe that’s just me but culture wise I don’t want him
There’s probably two coaches in the playoffs right now that need to turn us down before they consider him.
Let’s hope not
He was cancelled expect perhaps on the Bills interview, whether its weather or a realistic self reflection of how Bills would see him coming from Miami. Idk..
What we do know:
Insiders report he was confident in being the HC of Miami going into 2026 until he wasn’t…seems like a blindside fire.
He benched the franchise QB Tua, on effort accusations. 40 million APY guy that was his choice.
As the HC, his leadership apparently wasn’t respected enough by Tua to find a amicable professional means to move past whatever the divide was.
In history of HC, public chastising your franchise QB who is a adult in the dawn of their contract generally never ends well for the HC. Especially if the problem isn’t illegal.
He fills he is a OC for the same division in which he interviewed as HC for the Raiders, that math doesn’t add up.
The main component of being HC is leadership, I strongly feel he failed at Miami…
Some coaches are clearly better as coordinators.
This guy excels at that vibe. He’s not a leader of men, but can be a great and creative OC.
