Cancelled the renewal of my Sunday Ticket subscription. I’m not wasting $500 to watch this unserious team.
Anybody who knows this franchise knew it was going to be McCarthy as soon as it came out he was interviewing. Artie 2 cares for nothing but trying to convert all the goodwill the team has built for decades into money for himself. Other coaches would’ve wanted to improve the coaching staff, scouting, facilities, and all the other stuff Art pockets money instead of funding. McCarthy has shown he’s more than happy to yes man an owner who cares more about himself than the franchise. That’s the only qualification Art cares about.
All the HC facility nameplates just said Mike and Rooney wanted to save some money.
Probably got a 50% off discount on his 3rd year or something. You know AR2 would do that shit.
I like McCarthy and think he’d be fine for many teams, really the Browns or Raiders should have been pursuing him. He’s stable and a known good coach. That’s the issue here though…the steelers never want to take risk.

This doesn’t even make sense in terms of business/money sense. Rushing to hire someone who isn’t wanted elsewhere before getting to truly speak with a number of other candidates just means that you have less options to consider. So unless this guy is offering to work for free if he is hired by Monday, why tf would you rush into this?
The one somewhat sensible possibility would be if they really do want Schelhaas, but want to do some sort of thing where he is an OC under someone for a year with the promise of a promotion next year? But that seems exceedingly unlikely.

Great question, this was a “business decision” meaning the Rooneys did it to keep from having to pay too much for a coaching staff. The fact nobody was interested in hiring him the last couple years should have been an indication to SOMEONE in that building.
The only way this could work is if this is a 1 or 2 year contract, bring in Nate Scheelhaase as Assistant HC and OC, and from there have the understanding that Nate takes the team over. Give him a year or so to learn the ropes some more, with more responsibilities on and on. And from there either have Will Howard do a year or two, and if that goes absolutely sideways, well congrats because the draft class for a QB should be much better.
What a living in our fears hire also. If Rooney comes out and says “Mike McCarthy gives us the best chance to win now” we all should say with what team? This team can’t win a playoff game right now.
