Days like today in college hoops (with 3 freshmen dropping 40+ and many other crazy stat lines) are why I believe we can’t afford to miss out on the lottery in the 2026 draft and should be tanking. This is the best freshman class I have ever seen and landing one of these top prospects will help cement our core for the future.

Yes we are building something special in Charlotte and yes it’s great seeing us finally string some wins together, but I would absolutely rather a top 4-6 pick in this draft than making the play-in. I just don’t think this is the year to be too good to miss out on the draft but not good enough to make it past the play-in. You need top end talent in the NBA to reach the next level, and I fear that what we have now won’t be enough to do that in the next few years. IMO we should be tanking this season, because missing out on this draft could be seriously costly to our rebuild and may allow the other rebuilding teams to leapfrog us when they land an elite prospect. I just don’t think we need to rush things, we’ve been bad for long enough we can endure one more half season of being bad. Then 26-27 we ascend 📈🫡

Tho if we were to miss out, I wouldn’t be opposed to packaging a bunch of picks to trade up.

  1. I think we’ll still be able to find good talent in 7-15 range so however this shakes out is cool

  2. Not sure if anyone else noticed this from previous season.
The Hornets will start crappy, then get better in the middle, then becomes a team hard to beat in later part of the season only to miss out on the play offs but gives hope next year but misses out on top draft picks.

  3. Past 2 drafts the lottery gods have punished the tankers. I say we become the 3rd team to jump 10 spots

  4. Theres value in having your core pieces learn how to win too. I think we should stay the course for this year. Making the playoffs is doubtful but with lottery luck we may move up or if the management feels necessary, trade to move up.
