I’m about to be brutally honest..

OK Guys, it’s time to take a look at the game last night between the Montreal Canadiens and the Boston Bruins! The Bruins win this game by a score of 4-3, and get within’ 1 point of catching the Habs in the standings. Goaltending.. CONTINUES.. to be a problem in MTL.. Let’s break this one down.

  1. The Canadiens are having a great year. They can't win em all. To be honest, Montreal won way more games than expected. They will make the series.

  2. time 4 fowler to claim his crown and monty to move on…monty was given more then enough chances.the staff popped dach's finger back into the socket. our little bundle of joy got a hat trick…

  3. It does not help that 3 of the hottest teams in the league are in our division.

I guess that those three will actually start to loose some games. Otherwise they will set NHL records.

That should give us a better chance

  4. Relax everyone, the future looks bright. I think the team has to adjust with the returning injured players. It takes awhile to get into game speed when you haven’t played in quite some time. Should have picked BUSSI off wavers eh?

  5. Samuel Montembeault began his NHL career in 2018.

Since the 2018-19 season, 99 goaltenders have played at least 60 games in the NHL (10 games per year).

    Here's how Montembeault compares:

    Wins: 89 Ranking: 40/99

    Save Percentage: .896 Ranking: 90/99

Goals per Game: 3.23 Ranking: 91/99

  6. Just makes you appreciate Price / Roy when we had great goaltending. Man , imagine if we had half the goaltending those guys gave us with the offensive powers we have now and will add later.
In the past our goalies would carry us, now its the opposite, our offense is carrying us.
The stars will aligne one day where well have both

  7. I have been saying it for a while, we don’t have good enough goaltending from Monty or Dobes. Both have been very poor.

We are where we are and just have ride it out. What happens, happens this year. Not ready to compete yet regardless.

  8. This is a farcical situation: the #3 goaltender (who should be playing for the Rockets) is considered the first. He has the magical ability to make himself small in the net when it is recommended that goaltenders makes themselves large. Let's say the quiet part quietly: if his name was Smith or Jones he'd be gone by now. Okay, the pandering is over and now get Fowler back. Caufield especially deserves to be pissed. He scores a natural hat trick in Boston and watches the win being frittered away.

  9. Dobes needs to goal all games going forward until a disaster. They must not give the net to Montembault again. Fowler ain't no better while he was here.

  10. 50 games in I think we can safely say that Montreal's goaltending is weak and will not get the team anywhere once the playoffs start. Further, we have to begin to question the goaltending coach. Monty and Dobes are flopping around all over and are consistently losing their net and the angles to the shooters. This cannot be a coincidence. Fowler seems to have better positioning and it may also be linked to coaching in Laval. Either bring Fowler up and release Monty (can't imagine they could trade him for anything) or trade for a veteran goalie (Binnington or others) who may be available. This is a good team that can go far in the playoffs although I do not think they are ready to compete for thew finals. Either way, without a goalie, they will not even get past the first round. Regardless … Monty should be done in Montreal.

  11. at this point bring up Kähkönen and like keep monty or doby back in laval permanently. I think monty either gets moved, walks or gets bought out cuz i dont think kent wants to keep him anymore than the fans want him there. Its a sad turn around from last season where he was actually alright. But this season has to be the tipping point, the goaltending is holding this team back and either a call up / send down is needed or a trade (ideally shipping monty off for an ahl goalie r sthmg and bringing kahkonen up). also that dobson clip at the the beginning still pisses me off. 9 + mill for that ……

  12. Mtl has to score at least 4 to 5 goals in order to win, PK is horrible, 3 goals allowed on Penalty killing last night, and Monty seems to be having troubles again….

  13. The Habbies are the 9th lowest in the league for total shots against, and the 7th highest in the league for total goals against.

There's really no defending stats like that, and it's obvious where the blame lies. Not hating on the goalies, but it's the goalies.

  14. It's obvious to me, and has been for a year that this is not the kind of team that will do well come playoff time. They are fun to watch, they can score in bunches, but they are a far cry from where they need to be. However, they don't need to be that right now. They can afford to be patient and allow one of their young goalies to develop into the role. And if this team makes the playoffs, they aren't going to do it with Fowler and Dobes. Hughes isn't that kind of guy, he will want a veteran presence in goal, whether he is the starter or not. Next year, I could definitely see them turning Monty into a nice pick or something come deadline time. But for now he's not going anywhere.

  15. Trade Dobes, cos he is young and still has value, bring up Fowler and have Monty as backup. Fixed! Well, that's my view from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, where there are at least 2 rabid Habs fans. Me and my adult son, who plays and coaches in lower leagues over here. Yes! Australia plays Ice Hockey too!! Who wouda thunk it!!!

  16. Mini-zambonni need to go, otherwise known as Monty-always-down-on-the-ice… try getting Helleybuck from Winnipeg. This team need a STANDUP style goal tender… to pick the first stop, and ready for the rebound.

  17. Couldn’t agree more HJ. I think we need to be patient. I think we will make the playoffs but without the ability to keep the puck out of the net we won’t go far. I long for the days when scoring 3 goals was a guaranteed win because we could count on Price. But there was that early playoff run where Price road the bench and Halak took us deep into the playoffs. I just keep hoping we can find another Halak to use until Fowler is ready.

  18. At some point a goalie has to step up and win a few when it really matters IMO. If he's unable to, then the NHL might not be the place for him. Perhaps it was an anomaly and that this is the real Montembeau.

  19. IMO make a trade and get a goalie because the rest of the team deserves it. The entire team is doing their job but the goalie and when push come to shove the team deserves a goalie that can stop a puck and have a better save% than a AAA Goalie.

  20. Can't just go the goalie store and pick one up. A bunch of teams need one but none out there. Unless Monty finds his game, which was good but never great, Habs will not make the playoffs. Fowler isn't ready and Dobes isn't starter quality.
