The 49ers Electrical Substation ‘Conspiracy’ is Out of Control – Doctor Explains
The viral topic of the San Francisco 49ers and a nearby substation has taken over the internet. In this video we’ll take a deep dive on what the data atually shows about how significant (or not) the 49ers injury problem actually is.

this is coming from the 5G tower giving covid crowd 😂😂
This is so cool the research you did. Really amazing work on short order. More science should work this way.
I believe it especially after seeing the delayed mental capacity of 49ers fans hopefully theirs a lead helmet in development to save what's left
This is the same bs that made people crazy about 5g
Bottom line is it doesn’t matter if this nerd on the Internet thinks it’s not an issue. He’s not an expert. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about. if the players think it’s an issue it’s an issue..and it if you can’t prove that it’s not contributing maybe just shut up. You have nothing to add to the conversation.
This is just some guy who thinks he’s smarter than everyone else. Same type of people who told you the vaccine was good for you.
Fake news YouTube doctor. All the real maga doctors said it’s real
@ 19:30 it's GIF, not JIFF. 😜
Obviously the reddit poster is, well, sensationalizing their claim. Us NFL fans can get quite emotional. I don't agree with their hypothesis. And I also think there is enough correlation here, that if I was the Niner's, I'd take at least one serious look at it. I'm going to change the hypothesis, this doesn't need to be dramatic like the reddit poster suggested to have a tangible impact. Even if this sub station only weakens the players connective tissue by 5-10% vs. non-substation players that could be significant. This is a league where human beings are pushing human bodies to their physical limits and marginal impacts like 5-10% or even less can and would have an material impact. And it might not be so catastrophic as to call immediate attention to itself as well. Which, in my opinion, if true would be the worst case scenario as it makes it less likely to be notice or taken serious as a cause despite it having a material impact.
Sadly, datasets like in this video are to generalized to eek out something that might be happening on the margins. But it is all we have from our public vantage point. Hopefully the Niner's have access to something more useful.
It is most likely the Niner's injuries are simply bad luck. But Lynch and KS have made it clear they've done all they know how and yet it keeps happening with it arguably getting worse (although older star players likely contributes to this). If Lynch/KS have done all they can, it is then either bad luck or something unexpected is happening.
the masses are asses
At least it was good for content! I think people believe this theory because the major injuries have happened to star players. If they happen to Practice Squad or 3rd and 4th stringers, this theory would not gain traction because no one would care.
The post upgrade to shannahan analysis is a bit flawed imo. The upgraded facility if emitting high emf would not see effects until time had passed. Also what does the coach have to do wth injuries?
Can we have a similar analysis on artificial turf vs natural grass? 😂
Funny, that one can't even prove a correlation between age and injuries. They replaced Punter and long-snapper with guys closing in on 40, adding to half an o-line in the later half of their thirties, which raises the average considerably. But then again, probably 60% of their draft-picks for the last three years, were constantly injured, starting with this years watkins and any of their D-rookies, back through Pearsall, Cowing to Drake Jackso, Robert Beal etc.
It's also clear, that nothing changes for players, coming from other teams: Bartch had a injury history coming in and capt the history alive, similar with all the college kids, drafted for potential, but coming with injuries – I gues they will stay injury candidates for all their career.
related to the substation. why not just asking all the people living in the city quarters on the other side of the street from the station, if they're still alive?
They spend far more time there, than the team.
Shiiitt it is called the shannahans effect
Thank you so much for this , people don’t understand how to run data analytics anymore before going full into conspiracy mode, I know you said it’s more of a hypothesis but I don’t think people realize how dumb athletes can be , saying the sub station impacts injuries is going to have a huge affect on free agency but also its going to have a direct correlation on the perception around the 49ers that if you go there you’re going to get injured. athletes are stupid. They’re gonna start believing that just like fans.
The injuries for the Niners aren’t just related to games lost commutative, it’s about which players get hurt. A lot of teams will have players that are barely starters miss games which inflates those graphs. But the Niners consistently lose their top end all pro talent.
Brock Purdy, Fred Warner, George Kittle, CMC, Nick Bosa, Dre Greenlaw, Hugunga, Mykel Williams, Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, Ricky Pearsall, Trent Williams.
Every player I just named was on the NFL Top 100 over the last few years and all of them either had a season ending injury or missed half a season.
Maybe also compare to OSHA injury reports for electric substation workers and see if there is correlation as well.
Also could compare the same NFL injury data rate of occurance and relate it to distance of their home stadium to the nearest sub station.
Would be interesting for entertainment purposes.
Fuck the bosa brothers btw
Electricity is a mysterious force for most persons. If you have been next to high field forces, it can be detected by your senses. I avoid high field forces. Just common sense precaution.
A lot of the players the 49ers target in free agency and the draft are players who’s value dropped due to injury. I’m sure there’s more of a correlation to reinjury than the substation
Week 2, 2020 season: 2nd, and 3rd year players Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas go out for the year with torn ACLs. There were 2 more injuries during the game. I believe the players and coaches were critical of the Jets field that day.
I have no idea whether EMF contributes to injuries, but I do know 2 things for sure — if you tell a 49ers fan they were below league average in games missed in 2024 and 2025 ( 20:16 ), they'll disagree with you
And 2nd, if there IS any contribution to injury due to Northern Receiving Station and the colocated substation, it's about to get a whole lot worse… Over 50 datacenters have been built in Santa Clara and are powered through NRS (along with 2 other receiving stations). And there's such a high power demand that it's capacity is being urgently expanded again
In fact there are 2 whole datacenters that are built and ready, but SVP can't provide enough energy to actually turn them on. Amazon is even opting to use Bloom Energy fuel cells for its datacenter rather than wait for the SVP expansion
All this is to say — there is a lot of energy moving through NRS and it will rapidly increase
Finally someone researching this topic with a brain. Impressive work I know it wasn’t easy. You may want to push this down to the team.
8:12 "is it statistically significant? I don't know if you can make that claim." This is a yes or no answer, it's not up to "feels" or opinion. Don't pretend to be on the riguorous side of the argument but you go on "feels" to claim statistical insignificance.
I'm going with Dr. Jack Kruse on this one. He's the one that started our understanding of this and light in general.
What really might contribute to all the injuries is the fact they have so many games at night, ruining their sleep.
Do you have a link to the cleaned up data somewhere? Regardless of the weird EMF theory. The data at 7:00 isn't that convincing without some confidence interval of how abnormal is it. Does the data at 8:30 and 9:00 normalise for games per season, would postseason games over 15 years stack up? I'd agree that using a power station as a scapegoat is odd, basically conspiratorial. It does seem like they are doing something wrong but there are way too many factors to pin it down to a power station. Thanks for the interesting analysis, I'm sure with how open the NFL was with concussion data in the past we will get an answer super quick! 😂
I thought the claim was made specifically about ligament & tendon injury’s.
Every 49ers fan watched for sure.
Just because they're not number 1 in injuries doesn't mean there isn't a problem and of course no one has a case study yet means this problem doesn't exist.
At one time pregnant women could smoke, lead paint was used, asbestos was used in buildings, and cocaine in coke was thought of as fine then we learned better than that in all those cases.
All these theories and hypothesis weren't tin foil conspiracies and ended up being true as being bad for humans.
And we wonder why a conman is President
1000x more likely related to their S&C protocol and culture than an electrical substation a couple hundred yards away.
Genuinely, thank you for (a) taking the time to collect the data and analyze it, (b) taking the additional time to not just interpret the data, but also put it into layman's terms so the average YouTube viewer can understand it, and (c) taking the yet additional time to record this video, edit it, and make it public. That's a lot of hard work, so again, thank you!
I have three better hypotheses 1) the 49ers trainers are trash, and they don't know how to properly get athletes to recover, 2) Kyle Shanahan simply works them too damn hard in practice, as there is video at the beginning of season of him telling his team that they are going to have 3 consecutive day workouts because he wants them to have a "callus" when they get down the straight, or 3) Both #1 and #2 .
Worried about EMF? Easy, measure it on one side of the publicly accessible street, measure it on the other side of the publicly accessible street, and then extrapolate what the levels would be on the field since electro magnetic waves have a very predictable die off formula, often it's 1/d² but the weird geometry of the station may make it a bit different. Easy way to test your theories without needing permission from the 49ers to go on their fields.
One of your all time best!
RIP ALEX PRETTI
Training staff probably conspired to spread those rumors.
