Report from last year states that the reason Sam Darnold chose Seattle over Pittsburgh is because Pittsburgh wouldn’t commit to Darnold being the franchise QB

  1. I’m not that bummed on missing out on Darnold. He wouldn’t have done as well here. We have no receivers and no modern offensive scheme.

  2. we were never matching seattle’s offer and if we did no one in the right mind would have chosen us over seattle.

  3. I mean, that is incredibly fair based on his body of work over his career. Why even post this?

  4. I cant be that mad at this one. Plenty to be angry at but he had had 1 solid year at that point

  5. No offense to Darnold but the Seahawks are in the Super Bowl because of JSN and their defense. Darnold is just a part of it

  6. Our owner is risk averse. You may have noticed that. You don’t get a franchise QB by taking risks. He tried that with Pickett and it back-fired, so now it’s only proven, old dudes who have been castoff by everyone else.

  7. I’m fine with that. Sam Darnold isn’t an elite QB. He is just enough to elevate a really fucking good team.

And Seahawks are just really fucking good. We would be sitting at 10-7 with Darnold. I don’t think he would do any more than what Rodgers did.

  8. Darnold did himself a favor. He would not have thrived here with this shit show of a franchise.

    Go win that Super Bowl!

  9. We’re not gonna offer a high valued contract to a player that has only had one good season compared to like 8 bad seasons. The one thing that are gm is smart about doing is not handing out money that they think isn’t worth it. If we spent 100mil on Sam and he turned to be dog shit we’d be in a worse spot than we are now

  10. What’s with the Darnold FOMO posts? He obviously wouldn’t have done what he’s doing this year with Arthur Smith and our offense lmao. So the success you’re wanting doesn’t exist if he played with the Steelers this year. That isn’t to say that he couldn’t next year with better coaches and weapons.

Going into the offseason he was a 7 year veteran that was considered a “bust” for the first 6 of those. He had one stellar year on a stacked offense, but concluded the season with an abysmal playoff performance. It’s not crazy to see why he might be considered a bridge QB instead of the future. I personally, was hoping we would get him. But after seeing the $100M deal, I was okay with not giving him that much money. Again, all of this is a moot point. Because he wouldn’t have been this successful this year with us.

But I’m super happy for Sammy! He’s proven all of his doubters wrong, and that with the right environment(s), QBs can still develop later in their careers. Been rooting for the guy since our annual required playoff embarrassment.

  11. Its interesting how many guys are choosing to not come to the Steelers. Darnold last year and a couple WRs at the deadline were given the choice and opted to not come here (Shaheed it really worked out since he is going to the Superbowl now).

We heard so much about how guys want to play for Tomlin and love him, so even with that in mind guys still wanted to go elsewhere. Its pretty concerning since the most appealing part of the Steelers just retired. If we were having trouble attracting talent before, we are in deep shit now

  12. I can believe it. Tomlin wanted to do his little projects with Russ and then Rodgers. Darnold had a great season in Minny but a lot of people didn’t buy it because of his performance down the stretch, too. I doubt the Steelers were the only team who were hesitant on signing him for franchise money.
