He finally had his moment to get it right doing things the old way and we would have loved him for it. If only they had interviewed someone who fit the paradigm they’ve used for seventy years.

That’s about the size of it, yes.
The only thing that would make this meme better, is if the photos of Dan Rooney were contemporary, like a picture of Dan in the late 60’s to go along with Coach Noll.
I’m from Chicago. I am a White Sox and Bulls fan. It’s now like Jerry Reinsdorf owns my favorite football team too. What a fuckin joke of franchise we are at this point.
We are a joke.
for general pittsburgh sports fans: does this seem similar to when pitt hired stallings as bb coach? hopefully the media gives it as hard to the steelers as they did pitt that day
To be fair, Art was involved with Cowher and Tomlin.
The old way did lead us to this moment of no playoff wins but y’all don’t wanna acknowledge that. Give big Mike the chance he deserves
I absolutely hate it and am talking with my wallet. We go to a few games a year and I will be damned if I give that man another cent until they get serious about the future.
Would anyone here actually be okay if Art hired a young coach who had a mirror career to Chuck Noll?
Would this fanbase stand behind a guy who had 1 win in his first season, 4 in his second, and 6 in his 3rd?
Would we stand by a young guy benching our 1st overall pick QB?
Steelers Nation would eat that guy up and be chanting for him to be fired by week 3 of year 2….
This is such a silly pattern it’s bordering on astrology level of seriousness.
What those coaches have in common is competence. Not age. Not that they were DCs. They were competent and capable.
There’s not some magic formula or secret sauce to picking a coach that guarantees success.
Perfection.
Wearing the “Deal with it” sunglasses no less.
I don’t why they don’t want to rip the bandaid off. Cause McCarthy is a stop gap, gets bodied in the playoffs by younger coaches.
You do know that Cowher was a Yinzer also?
It’s not exactly the hire that deflated me so much. If we’d actually left no stone unturned, and interviewed all the supposed up-and-coming wunderkinds – not just Scheelhaase, but Davis Webb, Grant Udinski, Klint Kubiak – and made the decision that Mike McCarthy is the best candidate, sure.
It’s the fact that the decision seemed pre-ordained. Like McCarthy has told them we have a championship defense already (we don’t) and that our offense just needs a bit of work and we can just keep on running it back without ever having a losing season. No need for a bigger coordinator budget, no need for more assistants, no need for an analytics department. We just keep believing in the magical “Steeler way”, even as we slide into irrelevancy.
I think the saddest part for me is that when Week 1 rolls around we’ll see that Art really is right in that a lot of fans are just happy to be in the Wild Card hunt until Week 18 as long as we split the Ravens and beat up on the Browns.
I will like him as the coach if the Steelers throw the ball 10 yards past the line of scrimmage in the center of the field at least 5 times a game. The first play of the 2026 season should be a 40 yard pass in the exact center of the field.
Art the Deuce was the one that hired Tomlin. Dan stepped back from the day to day stuff in 2003.

The Steelers have gotten stale and hiring a young DC just wouldn’t do it anymore. Instead, they bring in the most proven OC HC available. MM has had strong offenses with QBs that have been stars or even with substandard QBs, which Pittsburgh probably will have.
You forgot the panel where Dan hands off control to Art of his own free will.
Art I hired Noll.
Don’t insult the mentally handicapped like that. They don’t deserve to be compared to Mike McCarthy
