I posted this on MLB and someone said to try the Cardinals sub.

I got lots of theories on who this guy is— any Cardinals experts know?

It was a photo found in with my Dads old collections.

  1. Looks like there was no game on June 12th, but was a doubleheader vs the Phillies at Shibe Park on June 11th.

  2. Google Lens came up with two possibilities: Lee Meadows & “Long” Tom Winsett. Of course, Lens results are iffy, at best.

It appears the date of printing is June 12, 1939 (maybe, ’33; last number is faded but looks like ’39). That may not necessarily coincide with when it was taken.

Meadows pitched in the 1910s, so, judging by the uni, he’s out. No “Birds on Bat” logo before 1922. That’s a post 1934 uniform.

Winsett played outfield for the Cards in 1935. Winsett’s Wiki image:

  3. he is undoubtedly wearing a 1938 or 1939 uniform, it is not a 1933 uniform based on the piping on the belt loops, pants, sleeve, and placket. Hard to tell in this photo, but if his jersey has a button front it’s more likely 1938 uniform, if his jersey has a zipper front it’s definitely 1939. The left sleeve would be the giveaway because they wore a giant patch in ’39.
