Terrible hire. McCarthy had elite offenses and a great defense during his time in Dallas. He can coach a team to get to the playoffs, but he won’t get you far. That is LITERALLY the exact situation the Steelers have been in with Tomlin. Makes absolutely no sense
The one thing McCarthy has proven in spades that Tomlin never could is QB development. Is it the ideal hire? No – but having an offensive minded coach is far more in-line with today's game.

This only makes sense if they're planning on hiring a young, hotshot OC to team up with McCarthy's offensive mind. I think they want McCarthy's CEO abilities and think he can develop Will Howard to start at QB next season. After a couple of years, I can see the new OC taking over as HC. If that's their vision, then it makes total sense.
