Thoughts from rest of Hockey World — JT Miller might be a top-10 worst captain decision in NHL history.

It should of been Fox or trochek imo
I’d have to agree with that one
Absolutely agree with this take. It’s such a baffling move it feels like some sort of funny revenge for what Messier did in Vancouver
Miller is the perfect Drury player. Big, slow American with a toxic attitude who thinks he shits gold. He probably has a front office job waiting for him the moment he retired and he’ll be GM of the Rangers in 20 years
We should start booing him everytime he touches the puck and maybe he’ll take his ball and go home like he did in Vancouver.
Just a normal Drury decision.
His sugar daddy Dolan is in love with him so we have to suffer.
When you put the C on the guy who just walks through the door (besides Messier) when there is already a leader on the team in Trocheck, it creates bad karma. They had to ask Trocheck about Miller before they traded for him, and yet Miller wears the C. I’d say trade Miller but then who would ever want to be Captain again if they keep getting traded?
I’ve been screaming that it should’ve been troch after the Trouba dust settled. But nooo
I thought this was an extremely ill considered trade, in terms of his age, the $ and duration, and where the team was/is. Even if he lived up to expectations, he wasn’t going to drag this group of Rangers into contention.
Miller is getting a lot of hate which is mostly understandable but he’s still a heck of a lot better than what we traded to get him. I do think he’s played hurt most of the season which hasn’t helped us. The Drury is still out on him imo (see that I did there)?
None of us know the locker room dynamics to opine on captain decisions. Player skill and success is besides the point
Right after Drury as gm
Sky is blue and the pope shits in a toilet.
Shit all of us know
Ppl will toss out names but not a single person on the roster deserves the C except maybe quick if he could be
They should’ve never named a captain this season. We already had a retool before the letter and knew how this season was going to turn out, especially after what happened last year. The franchise has had stretches without a captain. I don’t dislike JT as much as some people here do, but it’s clear from the get go he wasn’t fit to be captain and all it’s done is handcuff us. I don’t think trocheck would’ve been the right choice either. He’s a good locker room guy, but frankly I think his on ice ability is overrated. On top of that, if this season were to go wrong (as it has), he does have a lot of value and he will likely be one of the first ones to go. I don’t think mika wants the C, and laf hasn’t grown into the player we thought he would be. Fox is the only one in the locker room who’s deserving of it, but we don’t know much about his leadership skills.
Any captain that is decided by management and not the players will forever be a terrible decision.
What is NHLVibes
It’s been a horrible season. What was a worse season is recent years than this one
A rushed decision made by the worst GM in modern history. This team should have been without a C until they found their own identity down the line. Instead we are stuck watching this train wreck develop in slow motion until he eventually gets traded.
Idk why the team even needs a captain immediately anyway, especially after dumping Trouba. The team went four years between McDonagh and Trouba, which made it seem like the decision took time to metastasize, even though I definitely scratched my head at Trouba’s C at first. Keeping a roster of A’s only, seemed to work well at the time because the vibes were good and all of those A’s seemed qualified to be a Captain if any one of them were promoted. Feeling the need to immediately fill a Captain void (**to a player that wasn’t even an assistant captain last season**) seems more like the locker room was devoid of any leadership and felt lost, and they rushed JT into the role to hopefully bolster some sort of energy renewal while the aging roster still had a shot at the playoffs. Seemed like a half-ass attempt to save a clearly sinking ship.
That’s a bit hyperbolic
I don’t think this season is a condemnation on Millers ability as a C. Drury broke all this well beyond repair but more importantly iced a god awful talentless team
Miller may be a problem but the roster sucks and that’s the issue
I think Captains are mostly BS. The problem is he’s not doing very well. He can be as big of an asshole as he wants if he was putting up points and the team was winning.
Yeah he should have been at best an A.
Not only was he just coming in NY, but also with what happened in Vancouver right before he came.
Having a fractured locker room after seeing 2 of their leaders traded, and then trading for a locker room cancer.
Then you trade the last leader off the team and make this guy captain while carrying a near $9 million anchor until 2030 and somehow believing this would all make the team better?
It’s why I keep saying Drury’s motivations are to destroy the franchise because these sets move moves are exactly how you’d do it
He’s looking like the worst captain in franchise history all things considered. Maybe not as divisive as Trader Phil and the trade that was made to get him, but he at least was a great player and did well with us, so I struggle to think of a worse captain than JT other than perhaps Drury himself.
I do think it’s funny that people are copy and pasting that tweet and reposting it on other platforms for engagement lmao
Should have just been Fox. Elite player that doesn’t rely on speed so probably has a longer shelf life, has won the Norris and proven himself over and over. A guy who forced his way onto the team and is from NY. A quiet leader type. Will always be beloved by fans.
Drury was a worse captain.
Wait, but I thought Trouba was the problem????
Should have been RYAN McDonough last 8 years but nnnnooooooo. Had to shake up the unshakable
