Us and the Rams have both lost multiple playoff games in large part to Special Teams blunders during this stretch. Maybe it’s time we give a shit.

Please for the love of god fire Bissacia. I don’t even care whose fault it is when you’re this bad. He has to go.

  1. Whether it was Week 1 or the Wildcard, having whoever was on Punt Return just auto fair catch was so embarrassing. Imagine having a guy who can get 10-12 yards on each return, let alone having a real scary returner. Just sad the team does not seem to care as you cannot convince me Doubs is the best punt returner on the 53 man squad.

  2. I want to eat the glue the rams have been eating. We’ve got the good stuff over here but it looks like they’ve got the top of line glue there.

  3. I will preface this by saying im all for firing bissacia. But this stat (and if you could take it back further and look at MLF’S entire tenure) show why firing him alone isn’t going to do anything. The whole reason we got Rich in the first place was because our ST was a disaster under the prior coach.

It is clear we have a HC and GM that do not prioritize roster spots for special teams. It’s clear we have a HC who does not allocate practice time to special teams. Until that changes you can hire whoever you want… our special teams will still be sub par.

  4. I too think Bisaccia should go but I also think the issue is the amount of “talent” going towards the special teams.

It’s not all Bisaccia’s fault but he does bear a good amount of blame because he’s obviously not coaching his players up. But when the Special Teams is made up mainly of your 3rd and 4th string guys I think it says more about the drop off in talent from tier to tier to that level of player that Gutekunst is giving to Bisaccia to work with.

The drop off from our starters to the 2nd string in a lot of positions this past season was dramatic. Can only imagine the drop off from 2nd to 3rd and so on…and those are your ST starters for the most part with a few 2nd stringers sprinkled in

  5. I hate our special teams so so much. It was literally to the point I was relieved if they fair caught it just cuz it meant there wasn’t an opportunity to lose the ball or get out obligatory penalty. Like this is a total guess, but I would bet good money we got a penalty on over 50% of our returns.

  6. Makes sense, look at all the games we lost this season by a single score because ST screwed up royally. You’re basically starting the game with a 7 point deficit

  7. Shocker, the 2 Super Bowl teams are in the top 10. Like people have said in this Reddit many times, the coach is partially to blame as we don’t put an emphasis at all on special teams. Looking at this report, it seems that very common in the Shanahan coaching tree lol. Something needs to change. Bissacia is probably the scapegoat for it but we need to fundamentally change at all levels in this area.

  8. A stat, where the 5 worst teams since 2020 are that successful over those seasons, shows that special teams are rally not the area to focus on.

Yes, I know the Chargers once missed the Playoff because of special teams.

Still, this post highlights that special teams are really not that important. Doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to improve, but the focus should be somewhere else…

  9. 49ers are next worst after us, but the gap was big enough to beat us in the Playoffs on a Special Teams play. That, and the offense laying an egg for the majority of the game.

  10. Genuinely asking, how does a roster have to be built to properties special teams? We use starters on coverage units. One thing we literally never had in the last 15 years is a punt returner, although Nixon accidentally became a great kickoff returner.

So what do the great teams do? They draft special teamers?

  11. This kinda highlights why it’s not important to invest in special teams…besides this year all Super Bowl winners have been mid to bottom.

  12. Mike Shanahan must have not let the kids watch special teams. “There’s only TWO phases of football, you hear me!? *smacks Kyle, Sean McVay and Matt LaFleur”

  13. Look at all those SB champs we’re grouped with. It’s almost like you guys are focused on the wrong thing.

FIX THE DAMN O LINE AND OFFENSE’S TENDENCY TO SPUTTER.

  14. Those three worst teams have all been competing for Super Bowls practically every season. Feels this undercuts how important ST is.

  15. Whether or not this is actually Bicassia’s fault is debatable (no resources).

What’s not debatable is the need for a scapegoat and a clean slate.

Get rid of Bicassia and McManus.

Use one of those 7’s on Trey Smack from UF.

  16. Is the 2nd image updated as of today? Everything seems about the same between the teams we can see except we know the 1st image is from a few days ago, and the Rams are about 6 points worse in the 2nd (muffed punt in the red zone will do that)

  17. Even if MLF loves Bissacia, he has to make a change. He could just show him this chart.

  18. The main take away from this is that ST ranking isn’t all that important to success.

  19. I hope the front office is learning something from Seattle.
Envious of their Defense and how the entire team plays strong and HARD like rabid dogs.

They’re on another level right now
