man this sucks. i wanted to watch him. do we have any players at all in the WBC?
Definitely wanted to see him play but if it means he stays healthy I’m cool with it
I know yall don’t care but I for one am sad about this. Would’ve been fun.
I’m grateful he listened. Last time this happened he had the wild pitch that knocked him out for 2 months of the regular season yeah?
Damn chandler Rome said in his podcast that it was just an insurance problem and not an Astros asking him not to participate problem. Some detail seems to be missing.
After all the injuries last season, I’m sure the Astros prefer to at least start the season healthy.
I feel bad for him but I think this is a good decision.
I disagree with this. Let the man represent his country. Injuries are fluky and he could have just as easily been hurt in spring training
It sucks but he’s older and needs to stay healthy for his HoF push
Don’t get this. These WBC games are just taking place of spring training games he’ll be playing in.
I feel bad for him because I know he wanted to play. But let’s be real, he isn’t getting younger and we really need him to be healthy.
I know there are a lot of people that are happy about this because of a freak accident three years ago (as though that same occurrence is guaranteed to happen again if he were to participate), but I wanted him to be part of Team Venezuela. You just know how much he wanted to participate.
If it’s an insurance issue (as Rome states), then it’s not as cut and dry as “the Astros said no,” and they might have been willing to let him play otherwise.
Personally this sucks. This was likely his last run with Team Venezuela before age would’ve left him off a likely stacked roster.
I understand the thought process on the org’s side of things, but it doesn’t subdue the sting any less
Unfortunate for him, but at least I don’t have to root against him lol
Wow. Harsh
Well, if John Bard, RP Rockies, hadn’t struck his hand in the last WBC, this may not have come up. Altuve missed over half the season last time.
As a Jose Altuve fan, that sucks. I know he’d rather be out there competing for his country… Especially right now.
As a selfish Houston Astros fan that doesn’t necessarily care about the WBC… Good lol
That sucks. Team did him dirty
Last time he played in WBC, he broke his hand. I’m totally cool with him not playing in it.
He broke his hand in 2023 and the Astros started season 16-14. They barely won the division on a tiebreaker with the Rangers.
I wonder if they are worried about him getting back from Team Venezuela and see him leaving as an opportunity for ICE/CBP to not let him back in.
He got hurt there before when he was younger
This is super lame, the tournament is already watered down to reduce chance of injury don’t deny the players too
Good, he’d probably break both hands this time.
I agree with this unless they change the time of the wbc so it’s not right before season.
Lame of the team tbh
He’s earned the right to do whatever the fuck he wants.

Great decision…banners are more important. Respectfully.
Makes sense
The fact Jose was injured during the last WBC and *still* wants to play in it tells just how much this ‘meaningless’ tournament means to players.
As he should
