PR had this list up on a recent episode. None of these guys besides Vita are even gonna sniff a pro bowl.

Look at the teams that made the final 8 and think if we’ve got the guys to hang. A bottom 1 pass rush isn’t gonna get it done.

  1. Because Licht is trash at drafting pass rushers. Vita is the only hit and that’s because he’s a freak of nature.

  2. This here is all on Licht. Every one of these is a terrible pick except for Vita Vea. If you’re going to be this bad at drafting front seven then you’d better be supplementing and plugging holes with free agent hits, like Shaq, JPP, and Suh. It’s been none of either for the last 6 years.

  3. This is why we should draft a LB, DB, or that Oregon TE in the first. I’m suffering from Licht Edge Stress Disorder and rather we trade/sign an edge. Has historically worked well with us (Simeon, Suh, JPP, Barrett, etc).

  4. I’m not exactly defending Licht, but White literally made a pro bowl (he was bad but still – played very good in the super bowl run).

Nelson is a solid player for a fourth round pick.

Kancey could easily make a pro bowl if he stays healthy (big if).

Diaby is a good player for a third round pick.

Definitely some big misses but it’s not as bad as some people act. Scheme is the biggest issue for sure. And we get very little development for our defensive players bc all of Bowles buddies that he hires are bad coaches.

  5. I won’t blame devin white, on anyone but himself, his ego wrecked his career, tryon, hall, and braswell haunt me however

  6. Licht is multiple things:

He is one of the best at turning non-first round picks into value. Cody Mauch, Jacob Parrish, Jalen McMillan, Bucky Irving, Rachaad White, Yaya Diaby (he’s an amazing pick, he isn’t an Edge1 but he would make an amazing Edge2, which is good considering where he was drafted)

He is one of the worst first round pick GM’s, especially on defense. Barton is looking questionable, Kancey can’t stay healthy, Tryon was a bust, White is debatable but he did help the SB run massively so you can give him some slack

Licht also values BPA too much, at least in my opinion. Jihaad Campbell was on the board and we go luxury at WR (yes WR injuries made it an okay move in hindsight but still).

He also holds onto draft picks too much. Jaelen Philips was available for a 4th round pick, and our anemic pass rush was evident at that point, and we didn’t pull the trigger.

I want to see Licht get AGGRESSIVE this offseason. Sign one of Nakobe Dean or Odafe Oweh and draft Sonny Styles or Cash. He does that, I’ll feel better

  7. It has to be a mix of draft and free agency. Bucs spent $40 million, whereas Patriots spent $365 million and Seahawks spent $205 million in free agency. Both are top 4 in spending.
    Edit: Bucs are 29th.

  8. I think one of the main things that gets overlooked when talking defense picks is available talent at our draft position. JTS was a bust, but who are you picking at 32 that turns into a pro bowler for edge?

The only real time you can get on him for that is 2022 when he traded out of getting Karlaftis

  9. The only bad picks I can see are jts and braswell.. maybe hall. He looked like he was turning the corner and then disappeared again near the end of year. Jts was basically a 2nd round pick and bust rate is pretty high for pass rushers. Rest of guys were generally pretty good value where they were picked. White obviously got selfish and got cocky. Walker is an unknown

  10. Licht’s pass rushers don’t work out but the two ILB picks I can think of did work out in the short term (White and Alexander). Curious who they get this year with several viable options in Reese, Styles and Hill

  11. Braswell was such a stinker of a pick. No traits whatsoever, uninspiring film, & yet we use a premium pick on him. At least when we picked Da’Quan Bowers back in the day he had traits that got you excited, you could see why they gambled on him even if he had a bad knee. Braswell had no business going in the 2nd round.

  12. well lets see

    glorious vita vea

    Bust

    Bust

    Bust

    Bust

    Injured all the time

Solid but not really a stud, also has nobody on the other side of him

    Too Soon to tell

    Too soon to tell

    yeah that covers it

  13. We havent hit on the front 6 since Vita Vea. #45 was good but then got his panties up in a wad when he wasnt getting paid as much as LVD.

When Kancey is healthy he is a beast. Hopefully he stays healthy.

Diaby aint bad for a 3rd rounder.

We cant 100% rely on the draft for defense. We need to grab some seasoned veteran FAs.

  14. Lol bad take, Devin white made multiple pro bowls (yeah I know he’s bad but produces counting stats and was all-pro for SB season), Yaya is always a pressure machine, just needs to finish better and hes making a pro bowl, Kancey needs a full season and he could make it pretty easily, David walker hasn’t seen the field and the other guys are decent rotational guys. The only absolute bust is braswell

  15. Licht sucks in the trenches and drafting QBs. Facts are Facts. FA is what gets him praise. We don’t have the talent but people thought this team was a contender lol with old/injured players and no depth.

  16. Licht is a good drafter, but he should never draft defensive lineman, QBs or special teams players with premium picks. He has proven to be at best inept and at worst reckless in those positions.

  17. To answer your question OP, it’s coaching. Our Head Coach should not be the defensive coordinator also, he needs to just be in charge of the team and making sure the game plans work.

  18. Have you seen the play calling for our defense? I’ll never forgot having rookie Parishh on f*cking Amon Ra

  19. Simple reason: Bowles defense is 100% boom or bust with it blitzing scheme. If the blitz does not hit home, a big play is guaranteed I normally like this type of aggressive, high risk high reward defense, but his defenses, especially in the second half of the season, doesn’t hit Home at all with the risk it takes. There is literally zero reward for the risk taken

  20. Well…. when you end up with schemes that put people like YA YA Diaby out wide in single coverage vs a WR… the scheme is bad

  21. This fan base IS DELUSIONAL!!!!! It’s the HC fault looking at these picks????? On what planet? Not ALL of them are bad and I’m a Licht supporter. I understand you can’t always get it right.
    However..…let’s start with JTS (21)
You take him and pass on BOTH starting DTs in the SB for NE in two weeks. A lot of Tampa fans wanted Barmore! Many mocks had is taking him!!Also many fans ,me included, really loved Milton Williams on day two. That’s not a hindsight lie either. I really liked him a lot, so did a few other Bucs fans I interact with! May have to start saving screen shots so in 3 yrs we can ( hopefully not) do this again! Also Alim McNeal, Odighizuwa , also Hainsey over Meinerz. The “ gut” who many had penciled to us for being a small school “ Licht guy”..
2022- This one here is really laughable at some of the comments. We passed on Karlaftis and you have ppl saying Hall wasn’t a bad pick?? Really??? Dude slid, was a gift, instead we pass. A key piece to KC defense carrying the team. Him n Jones up front.. I mean come on man. He had 10.5 sacks been in a couple SBs.. This is certifiably crazy!! Blame the coach you passed on a stud for a dud and claim the dud is good pick? 🤯🤯🤯 Not to mention Pitre and Bonnito were taken in the second AFTER Hall!!! Like 10.5, 14.5 DPOY type talent. DTs that are annually leading teams to SBs..

2023… I can’t complain. I saw the reasons but then 2024 Braswell?? Come on man…

Starting this year, we’ll go back to keeping pink slips, but to see just how UNFAIR the BIAS is towards a HC who you’d think was 3-14 every year. This is fkn crazy… Baker throws a pick, Bowles fault! Shitty draft picks, same.. Injuries, same… like why even chime in if you’re dead set with the same answer regardless of the question, Is he a great HC no, does he make mistakes? Yes.. can his scheme be better? Yes.. Simplified? Yes
but he’s not the freaking blame when there’s lots of blame to go around INC these picks!! Let us bomb one or two more drafts and you’ll see JL gone too! . This is WHY Todd Bowles has a job. The Glazers see that when you blame everything from bad draft picks, INTs, fumbles and even bad weather on Bowles. How can they take your opinion seriously???
